Meet Jason Burnett | Detailer and Activist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Burnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Los Angeles California but my mother and her family are from Atlanta Georgia. Growing up in Cali I was always told about my family down south and at 13 I was able to visit for the first time. The next year my dad and uncle actually moved to Atlanta and I convinced my mom we should go to. Once I connected with her side of the family I began seeing the poverty that my mom came from. When she passed we started Everybody Eats in her neighborhood “The Bluff” and chose to give back to the community that raised my family. So we feed people in need each Wed in her honor

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets us apart from others is 2 main things 1) a genuine connection and interest in the neighborhood that we serve and 2) we refuse any government funding.
Serving the people in the Bluff is a way for me to personal stay connected to the place that birth my mom.
We feel hunger and food scarcity is a problem that we can solve ourselves if we work together. There are more than enough resources in our community to fix that issue without government intervention, we just have to show we care and redirect our resources for a better cause.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they come in on Monday we would go visit the typical tourist spots, MLK museum, underground, stone mountain etc. And give them a lil background on the pivotal roll Atlanta played in the formation of this country as it currently stands.
Tuesday we would go for Tacos because thats what u do on Tuesdays…you eat tacos! Take them to Don Tellos by stone Crest.
Wednesday is Everybody Eats so we would go and feed those in need as we do each week.
Thursday we could explore some nature trails like Roswell Mill or the bamboo Forrest
Friday we could just go downtown and enjoy the energy of the city at night.
Sat we could visit East ponce city market and walk the belt line to Krog St market
Sunday we can go to the Mercedez Benz stadium and catch the falcons game

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are plenty of people and organizations that helped us stay consistent for the last 6 years. Everything we do is based on getting support from the community. We solicit donations for every meal we serve. We could not do it without the contributions of regular everyday people. Not 1 donor is bigger or more important than the next, they all are necessary and vital to our continued efforts
