We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Berric and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
We bring together student athletes from surrounding counties to compete in the sport of rowing. Our track record demonstrates the formation of meaningful relationships, strong physical discipline, elite time management, amongst other skills to assist our players in life beyond high school
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Aside from being a high school teacher throughout the week, I sprint to the boathouse immediately after school every day during the week. All of my personal and sick days are dedicated to travel for competition. During my planning periods, I pass the time reading about training and watching film. When I walk in the door each at 8pm night, I input data and review film from the day.
Our brand is simple: we build championships by developing athletes. We bring in athletes that have the desire to push themselves, that want to be a part of something bigger. In rowing, there really is no place for stardom, it’s about the boat of athletes working in unison to achieve a mission. Our club may not be the size of the best across the nation however, our athletes, training, commitment and support allow us to compete against the best.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We go to Avalon, downtown Alpharetta or downtown Roswell. When college coaches come to watch practice, we inevitably end up at one of those places. The food, drink, and social aspect of these places is inviting and welcoming, while also delicious and fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The athletes of SA Rowing Club. We started building our program from 11 girls to now being regional champions. These girls put in hours of work, dedicate their free time to our mission, persevere against the odds, build up and support each other, all while managing the challenges of being a student and teenager. They are the glue and foundation of our program. Our team would not be in a position of growth and success were it not for them.
