Meet Jasmin Long | Wardrobe Stylist & Retail Store Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmin Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are inevitable and I believe taking risks are all apart of life. The phrase “take the risk or lose the chance” is something that always resonates with me when I have to make challenging decisions to do something I am nervous about. The thing is, you will never know if something will work if you don’t try. I try not to think of things as risks, but look at them as an opportunity of discovery. Risks have played in an intricate part of my life and career. The risks I have taken have all taught me vital lessons about myself and what I am capable of. They have also provided perspective at times I was unable to determine what strategies were necessary to implement. When things appear to be risky, normally it’s the one move I need to make. Risk tends to trigger me to analyze things from multiple perspectives. It allows me to effectively decide how my decisions will have an impact on my life or career. I am able to carefully evaluate what may or may not be for me. Risk can be quite scary. But they say if your dreams don’t scare you you’re not thinking big enough. You can’t let risk plant fear into you because the one thing you feel is risky, can ultimately be your big break.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I launched The Style Muse Bartique in July 2021. The Style Muse Bartique brand was developed to encourage self confidence, femininity expression through fashion, and to encourage women to live and thrive in luxury experiences. I believe every woman deserves to engage in luxury experiences. I wanted to show women that living in luxury is not about being rich. It is about living in abundance and wanting the best for yourself. I believe that luxury is indeed about the finer things in life but it is also about how you view an experience. When I decided to launch an online boutique my goal was to offer a brand concept that was unique and something special for women. Although I had no idea I would have the opportunity to open my first store front just 2 months after launching online, the journey has been nothing short of amazing. The concept derived from me being a stylist and viewing myself as an artist inspired by talents, craft, and the inspirational impact I had on others. The word “Muse” represents a force personified as a woman, who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist. A muse possesses a unique style which inspires the designer. My customers are my muses. I am inspired by individuality, different body types, races, and culture that influences the impact of fashion. A bartique is a hybrid retail store combined in a bar/ lounge setting. Most women have never experienced a luxury shopping experience, which is why we offer a beautiful, soft, and welcoming environment women are able to feel appreciated and catered to. Oftentimes you can only enjoy this shopping experience at a higher cost, but it was important that I give my customers this shopping experience without it costing them thousands of dollars. The complementary services and mock-tails we offer our customers serves as a token of appreciation and expression of how much we value everyone who shops with us.
The Style Muse Bartique honors the concept of a traditional boutique. Which is why we offer a range of unique apparel catered to a woman’s individual style. Our clothing is carefully curated to provide our customers with unique fashion choices, interchangeable styles, and exclusivity. The Style Muse Bartique is like a women’s oasis. Here, every woman can be a fashionista because we help you create the perfect wardrobe. Beyond helping you look your best, The Style Muse Bartique strives to feel just as good as they look. A woman’s wardrobe is her opportunity to stand out and freely express who she is without saying a word.
I am no stranger to business, however, this particular venture was special because I was doing something that would change women’s perspective about how they shop for themselves. I was able to execute it fearlessly. Although I had previous experience in retail during college, it was challenging developing all of the elements from scratch. It took a lot of research, trials, and errors. I was able to overcome these challenges by being patient with myself and the process. I had to keep in mind that I was building something. I planned and set goals for myself daily. A major lesson I’ve learned was that things take time and nothing is perfect. There’s always room for improvement but you have to be fair to yourself and give yourself credit for trying because most people don’t try out of fear. Since being in business, I have realized that my success was going to be dictated by my actions and ambition. Faith without works is dead and I live by that belief. Nothing worth having is going to be easily accomplished so I focus solely on being better and continuing the marathon as I grow in the entrepreneurial realm. When I started this business I had no clue what I was doing or how I was going to accomplish it all. However, I was committed to being intentional with my thoughts and actions. Less than a year later, I am moving from a 196 sq foot suite to a 2600 sq foot location inside of North Point Mall in Alpharetta, Ga. We are also expanding the brand by introducing a consignment program that sells, promotes, and recognizes other African American brands and small businesses. We are just getting started and there is such a long road ahead of The Style Muse Bartique.
