We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarmel McClary and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jarmel, how do you think about risk?
I think risk are necessary when starting your own business. It played a big role in my business because I took the risk to invest more resources into my business and it resulted in an increase in sales and bigger clientele.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the owner of the Streetwear brands Vintage Death & Love is Deadly. What sets my brands apart from others is that I tell my life story through my clothes. From the bad to the good times all through my clothes. My proudest moment for me was getting accepted into this big Streetwear event called Atlanta Streetwear Market. I got to where I am today by working hard, doing ground work, networking and promotion. It wasn’t as easy as it seems. It took time to get to where I’m at. Sleepless nights and traveling a lot to push my brand and expand. I overcame challenges by staying positive and networking and getting advice from other brand owners. I learned in my 5 years of owning a clothing brand that nothing comes easy and to always put you into your brand and create your own lane. I want the world to know that with my brand you can express your daily emotions from being sad to happy with my brand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to a pop up shop, Top Golf and Lenox. I would take them to eat at Juicy Crab. Probably try to hit an Atlanta Hawks game and chill courtside. I’d also probably take them to a car meet.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I just want to shoutout my hometown Elberton for always supporting me. Shout to my brother Keshawn & my homies Tank, Qirus and Dj for motivating me daily. I want to shoutout everybody who has ever played a part in business from pop up shops to helping me come up with designs. Shout out to my homegirl Kachiuna.
