We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamille Ivey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamille, what’s your definition for success?
For me, success isn’t just about financial stability or recognition—it’s about building a life that reflects my values and allows me to be fully present for my family. Success means creating something that serves others, brings confidence to my clients, and builds a legacy my child can be proud of. It’s about overcoming challenges with faith, growing through each obstacle, and finding joy in the work I do every day. If I can inspire others to keep pushing toward their dreams despite the hardships, then I feel like I’ve truly succeeded.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work as a loctician is about much more than hair—it’s about connecting with people on a personal level, building trust, and helping them embrace their natural beauty. What sets me apart is my dedication to every client; I aim to create a space where they feel valued and seen. Being a single mom, I know what it’s like to be stretched thin, but I’ve poured my heart into building a brand rooted in authenticity, care, and a commitment to excellence.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Balancing motherhood, studying barbering, and growing my business required intense focus, resilience, and sacrifice. There were many late nights and early mornings, and at times, the financial strain was tough. But my faith kept me grounded. I believe that everything I went through was preparing me to be the person and professional I am today. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success isn’t about shortcuts—it’s about showing up, day in and day out, even when it’s hard.
What I want people to know about my brand is that it’s built on purpose and perseverance. I’m not just providing a service; I’m building a legacy for my family and my community. My story is one of resilience, faith, and a relentless pursuit of my dreams. I hope it inspires others to believe that, no matter their circumstances, they too can create something beautiful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, I’d plan a few unforgettable days in Atlanta with a mix of relaxation, creativity, and nightlife.
Day 1: We’d start with massages at The Art of Touch Massage & Health for a relaxing welcome, followed by dinner at The Optimist for amazing seafood.
Day 2: For something creative, we’d do a sip-and-paint at Painting with a Twist, then head to Ponce City Market Rooftop for games, views, and drinks.
Day 3: We’d take it easy with brunch at South City Kitchen, stroll along the Atlanta BeltLine to see some murals, and end with dinner and bowling at The Painted Pin.
Day 4: We’d wrap up with a visit to a cigar lounge like Havana Lounge for a relaxed evening with cocktails, finishing off with a stop at Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall.
With just a few days, this mix of relaxation, art, and nightlife would make for an awesome, memorable time in ATL!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Building this business took a village, and I’m beyond grateful for the people who believed in me from the start. To the mentors who shared their wisdom, the friends and family who stepped in when I needed a hand, and those who watched my son when I couldn’t be there—thank you for lifting me up. Your support has been my backbone and my inspiration to keep pushing forward.
