We had the good fortune of connecting with Hanaan Clark – Sabir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hanaan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been amazed by all forms of creativity and the transformation of something ordinary into something extraordinary. I initially started Original Occasions with the hope of earning extra money outside of my full-time job as a registered nurse. Working in the Emergency Department during and after the COVID-19 pandemic was extremely stressful, so this became my creative outlet. After having my son, Original Occasions also became essential for maintaining my mental well-being. It might sound counterintuitive, but let me explain. I felt overwhelmed at the beginning of motherhood and needed something just for myself. Through my business, my creativity finally found a place to thrive. Running my own business is not just about income; it symbolizes freedom and fulfillment. I cherish every aspect of planning and designing weddings and events, including my role as a decorator. Bringing beauty and joy to spaces through decoration resonates deeply with me and adds an extra layer of meaning to my work.

What should our readers know about your business?
Original Occasions is an event and wedding planning business based in Atlanta, GA. We have a full team of planners, coordinators, and decorators. I am a person who goes full force into whatever I’m doing at the time. My passions consume me, and I become laser-focused. I found myself prioritizing everyone and everything over my own dreams. I was losing myself in all the roles I convinced myself were more important. My creative mind was still churning, and I needed an outlet. I needed to take hold of my life and dreams. This was an overwhelming period that caused me a lot of emotional and mental turmoil. However, choosing to recommit to my business, Original Occasions, was a turning point. It created a space for my creative light to shine again. That decision not only reignited my passion but also set me apart. My drive and creativity are uniquely mine. Every event or wedding I plan becomes a personal passion project, where I strive to exceed expectations. The journey hasn’t been easy, and I’m far from where I envision myself. Yet, every challenge has taught me to persevere, learn, and grow. Every day isn’t smooth sailing, but giving it my all will make the outcome worth it. With Original Occasions as your wedding or event planner, you receive a dedicated team that creates unforgettable experiences, leaving lasting memories. Our motto embodies our commitment: Original Occasions – Where moments become monumental.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit me, we would probably start by grabbing brunch at either Breakfast Boys in College Park or Gocha’s Breakfast Bar. If they’ve never been here before, we would have to visit some of the places Georgia is known for, like the Georgia Aquarium, a skating rink, or the Coca-Cola factory. I love spending time in parks, so we would definitely have a cute picnic, especially with my son since they really want to see him anyway. I particularly enjoy Kenwood Park in Fayetteville, GA. Later on, we could grab something to eat at Apartment APT 4B; it’s a great vibe with amazing food. I love music, so we would check if there was a live concert happening. We also enjoy shopping and sweets, so we would stop at local shops and coffee shops to sit and talk about life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my husband, Tahir Sabir. He is the other half of my life and the rock that anchors me through every storm. His unwavering support and belief in my dreams inspire me daily to push forward and pursue my passion. He also has a business, T&S Party Supplies, which provides event rentals and party supplies here in Atlanta, GA. We collaborate on projects often. I also want to shout out my friends and family. I am so blessed to have such amazing examples of entrepreneurial women and men. I also want to shoutout my many supporters who genuinely want to see me succeed. No matter how hard it gets, I always have them to show up for me. Their unwavering belief in me fuels my determination and gives me strength to overcome any challenge. I am deeply grateful for their love and encouragement.
