We had the good fortune of connecting with Haeshah Z. Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haeshah Z., we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Moving hundreds of miles away called for serious job hunting, right? I applied to jobs I was overqualified and everything in between. After applying to many jobs, I randomly got a phone call from a friend that asked if I could help her start her business, it hit me… I made a list of all the things I am an expert at. After making that list, I did a lot of research on people who already have similar businesses in what I was interested in. I started out as a “social media business” because I was afraid I would start something and not finish it. I wanted to see this through and I knew that, the day I spoke with my LS who is an attorney, she told me I can’t take anyone else’s money until I had an LLC. At that moment, I knew I couldn’t afford to get things trademarked and handle all other legal components, but I knew I could apply to get my LLC. As soon as we hung up the phone, I applied for my LLC and the rest is history.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My Communications & Digital Marketing Agency is unique because I serve everyone, it’s inclusive. Whether you are a children’s book author or you are a therapist with your own private practice. I don’t turn anyone away, because I wouldn’t want anyone to turn me away because I don’t fit within their niche. I even work with nonprofit organizations, that’s really where my heart is.

I can honestly say I have faced a lot of adversity within my career, which is another reason that lead me to creating my own agency. I have had my fair share of being treated unfair within the workplace, my position being phased out, and so much more. It wasn’t always easy, but I stuck it out until I couldn’t anymore.

I’ve learned to speak up, ask questions, and closed mouths do not get fed! You don’t always have the answers and can’t assume the answer is always “No”… sometimes you have to ask in order to receive!

I am passionate and creative individual who loves helping others in any capacity, as long as it is positive.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first thing that comes to mind is Ponce City Market! It has everything you need from shopping, good food, outdoor spaces, and the Roof top nightlife. Across the street is a huge local park, perfect for a picnic or just soak up the sunshine. Another great place, that I discovered recently is Slushed, they have really tasty “slushtails” and I highly recommend the Fiesta Fiesta flavor.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my amazing wife, Jackie Davis! She is my number one supporter, cheerleader, and always pushes me (even when I don’t want to be), because she knows my true potential; even when I don’t see it. My business bestie, Carmen Jimenez-Pride, thank you for allowing me to take the lead projects you’ve thrown my way and for always having my back.
