We had the good fortune of connecting with Gwen Reese and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gwen, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success would have to be resilience. Having flexibility to bounce back from the disappointments and failures has made me the success I am today. Over the last few years there’s been plenty of times where things just didn’t go as planned, but instead of dwelling on it I decided to try again! The spirit of resilience is what keeps me going & makes me want to be a better entrepreneur than I was yesterday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an artist straight out of Union City, Ga & I do just about anything in the realm of art! I’m most known as a tattoo artist, but before that I would always paint/draw. “Artist” is a vague term I use because I’m a painter, muralist, graphic designer, tattoo artist & as of recent, a clothing brand owner. I got here today from apprenticing at a tattoo shop & I learned so much about business there, that it inspired me to go into business for myself. The most important lesson I’ve learned so far would be consistency, if you don’t have it then you don’t have a brand. I want the world to know that my brand will forever evolve, & I’ll never be in the same place you left me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot to hang out in the city would have to be Little Five Points! It’s so lively there with music, food and lots of artistic people. I always enjoy going to Junkman’s Daughter with a friend to check out cool thrifty pieces.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my parents for showing me routine and hard work. They’ve taught me these traits just by me watching them getting ready for work, or taking me to their job from time to time when I was a kid. Simply seeing them in action motivated me to have the strong work ethic I have today.
