We had the good fortune of connecting with Gary Crenshaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gary, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Chances make champions , plus it pays!! Taking risks has played a big part throughout my career. I remember back working my last job in 2018 at Amazon where I wrote my first movie on my breaks and while i was on the clock. I was very determined to see where filming would take me seeing how it’s been a dream of mine since I was 8 years old. After I finished writing the movie I put my two weeks notice into my job ready to take on filming full time. After my two weeks were up i left with my last check of $652 with $2500 in my savings.I was a bit scared to take this risk seeing how i had 3 kids and one on the way, but that didn’t stop me I knew with God on my side i was going to make it in the film industry. Now I have 2 films on Tubi called Coming of age & Coming of age 2 which are doing Great in streams, A film that i co directed is also on tubi called Jealous, and in post production for another film I wrote that will be on tubi mid -August called “Bond Money”. I also have a book that I wrote titled ‘Triangle of love’ which is on Amazon Kindle.

What sets Gr8tlakes Motion Pictures apart from a lot of other companies is that a lot of the work and funding comes from Me. I didn’t have any hand-outs, loans or investors stepping up when i was asking for help to get the ball rolling. That alone makes me proud to see the progress and the investments i have made over the time, from buying lenses, boom mics, prop guns and etc. It wasn’t easy getting where i am today , it took a lot of sleepless nights , falling out with people that didn’t see the vision, working side jobs to pay for cast and extra things for being on set and etc to finally get things flowing the correct way. The lesson i learned along the way is the 5 p’s rule ; proper planning prevents poor performance. I want the world to look at Gr8tlakes Motion pictures and know the sky is the limit, and you can really live out your dreams, just keep you name clean, work hard and keep God first everything else will come to you..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Im From Detroit Mi, I’d take my friend down to belle isle to see the water, you can also look across the water and see Canada. One of my favorite spots to eat would be Views, Starters, lillies on the Green. i also like drinks from those places. We would catch a pistons game or lions game both teams play downtown. I would mainly take them to the downtown area of Detroit to hangout there is many places to eat drink and dance if you like to ball room.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I gotta shout God out, cause without him there would be no me. I when i was incarcerated i stared reading books titled ” the cartel” It’s actually a series of books, but id like to thank Ashley and Jaquavis for making such great books. Those books taught me how to write and how to make my words become visual when reading.. Id also like to thank my parents, friends and family. My kids are the main thing that keeps me going im building a legacy for them. Id also like to thank my business partner Devon Graham who helped me bring my films to life.
