We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felicia, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a small city in Alabama. Growing up, I was surrounded by my loving family, which included my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Most of my childhood memories include time spent doing regular things with my family. My mom was a certified nursing assistant. for most of my life, she worked in a long-term care facility. She was dedicated to her patient’s well-being. While she was at work, I was typically with my dad or his sisters and brothers. My aunts and uncles were older. So, I have always been around older adults. Being reared in this environment created an awareness of older adults and their needs. Once I completed graduate school, I started working as a social worker in a long-term care facility.

What should our readers know about your business?
CareTalk is a full-service senior-focused agency. I am excited to offer services specifically for older adults and their families. In many cases, older adults are left to figure things out for themselves. As one grows older, a lot of changes occur from financial to mental and physical. At CareTalk, we offer counseling and coaching services to help older adults thrive. Another focus for our agency is helping family caregivers understand and manage issues related to family caregivers. Many middle-aged adults are faced with caring for their aging parents as well as managing their minor children. we have a strategic educational program that helps family caregivers understand and manage the process. In addition, we offer counseling services to family caregivers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Eating is always on my list of things to do while on vacation. So, the first place I’d recommend is Highland Bakery. I love their sweet potato pancakes! The Atlanta Grill has a scrumptious brunch. If you’re looking for live music, I’d say visit Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint or The Velvet Note.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know I wouldn’t be where I am without my HBCU undergraduate education. Thank you, Alabama State University, Department of Social Work, for helping me to focus and pursue my purpose.
