We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Lofton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my travel business because my friends always told me I was really good at planning trips. Every trip I ever put together and invited others on, they would be in awe at the things I was able to put together and find-from the food to the excursions or even just the accommodations itself. I figured, why not put my talent to use and help others plan the BEST vacations? I always felt like…people struggled putting trips together for groups or even just couple getaways. I wanted to be able to help with that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started the Traveling Counselor over the summer of 2021. Previously I launched my business right before COVID hit and the travel industry took a pretty big hit. I took some time off to focus on my main career-counseling. This was a very challenging process because there were a lot of things up in the air with COVID and I thought, maybe this is a sign I should just stick with counseling and continue to just plan travel for friends and family. I am most proud of how fast we have grown and the number of people we have reached. I want the world to know that there is room for everybody and the key to success is consistency and service. IF you know me you know I HATE terrible customer service. The Traveling Counselor aims to provide quality customer service no matter the budget.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a Southside ATL native so if I had a friend in town I am definitely taking them to the city! I would start with a nice brunch at The Flying Biscuit Cafe. They are know for having some of the best breakfast in the city! If they wanted a more urban vibe, definitely Breakfast at Barney’s. Then I would be up for some shopping at Phipps. I would love to show them around Midtown too. Midtown has some hidden gems. Another one of my favorite places to hit in the city is Krog Street Market. They have really good food options for lunch! Nightlife in ATL is a really big thing for out-of-towners as well. Me personally, i’m not a club girl, but, I would be down for maybe CRU, Blue Martini, or Atlantis.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate a shout-out to my boyfriend-James. He has encouraged, inspired, and pushed me closer to my dreams. Thank you for your unwavering support.
