We had the good fortune of connecting with Emani Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emani, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Most people don’t realize that, even as a military kid, mostly growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, I always dreamed of living a creative life. I like to say that in another lifetime, that might have been my path. But as I stepped into my tech career and embraced the responsibilities of representing minority women of color, and making an impact, I found meaningful ways to reconnect with that creative part of myself through classes, volunteering, and community work. Out of that, the “Mani Moves Collective” came to life, and we’re just getting started!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mani Moves is rooted in the belief that movement, whether physical, emotional, or community-driven, has the power to transform lives. At its core, the brand is about “making moves” in every sense: moving your body, moving with purpose, and moving the community forward through meaningful engagement. My mission is to create spaces where people feel empowered to prioritize their well-being while also becoming active participants in uplifting those around them.
What sets Mani Moves apart is the fusion of wellness, authenticity, and community impact. This is not just a fitness offering or a wellness platform, it’s a movement grounded in intention, representation, and service. I am deeply proud of the environment I’m building: one where individuals feel both challenged and supported, seen and celebrated. I’m excited to continue evolving as the wellness entrepreneur I know I’m becoming, allowing the brand to grow alongside the community it serves.
My journey to this point has been far from easy. As a natural overthinker, it took courage to step outside my comfort zone, trust my instincts, and believe that my voice—and my approach—deserved space in the wellness industry. But I’ve learned that the most meaningful paths rarely come without resistance. With my faith at the center of everything I do, I’ve learned to move with intention, patience, and purpose. I’ve discovered new layers of resilience and clarity within myself, and each challenge has taught me something valuable about leadership, discipline, and grace.
There were moments when doubt tried to overshadow my progress, but I learned to lean on my village, my mentors, my community, and the people who believed in me even when I questioned myself. Their support reminded me that while I may be capable of anything I put my mind to, I don’t have to do it alone. Collaboration, humility, and connection have played major roles in shaping the business into what it is today.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that competition will always exist, but no one else can replicate me. What I bring to Mani Moves, my story, my creativity, my resilience, and my purpose, is uniquely mine. And that individuality is the foundation of the brand.
What I want the world to know about me and about the Mani Moves Collective is simple: this is a brand built on authenticity, heart, and community. It’s a reminder that wellness is not one-dimensional, it is a journey of self-discovery, healing, empowerment, and service. Every class, every event, and every partnership is an extension of that vision. My goal is to inspire others to not only take care of themselves, but to also take up space, stand in their truth, and make their own moves in the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Atlanta for a week, I’d make sure they got to taste the city’s flavors from global eats to nightlife, all with a mix of culture, energy, and good company.
We’d kick off at a rooftop or lounge to take in the city vibe from above. Then we’d dig into Atlanta’s vibrant food scene, starting with a Caribbean‑inspired meal at APT 4B, a vinyl‑bar /Afro‑Caribbean restaurant known for its inventive dishes like oxtail hummus, seafood stews, and a vibe that feels like your coolest friend’s apartment.
On another day, for TexMex or Hispanic food with energy and good flavors, we could go to spots such as Superica for Baja‑style tacos or check out Beso Buckhead for Latin‑American fusion in a stylish setting.
If we’re craving Asian flavors and something a bit elevated or refined, Hayakawa or Mujō are excellent, both are well known for Japanese cuisine and recognized among Atlanta’s top dining spots for those who love sushi or omakase‑style meals. For Italian comfort, pasta or pizza after a day of exploring or before a night out, a place like Indaco gives that polished, modern Italian vibe.
Later in the week, for nightlife with good energy, cocktails, live music or a relaxed chill-night ambiance, Westside Motor Lounge stands out. It’s part restaurant, part bar, part music venue, with indoor/outdoor spaces and a laid-back but stylish atmosphere. On another night, we’d catch live music, maybe a show or concert, to soak in local sounds, then wrap up with late‑night eats or drinks, reflecting on the week’s experiences.
What makes this collection of places special is how it blends culture, vibe, flavor and flexibility Afro‑Caribbean grooves at APT 4B, Latin‑inspired tacos or fusion dishes, elegant Japanese dining, comforting Italian, and lounge‑bar energy. It gives a taste of Atlanta’s diverse culinary soul while also leaving space for spontaneous nights out or chill hangouts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to begin by acknowledging FitSquad Studios, located at 1240 Metropolitan Parkway SW in Atlanta, Georgia, along with its nonprofit, MC Healthcare, Inc., founded by Moses Carroll. Their mission to cultivate accessible, community-centered wellness spaces has not only inspired me professionally but has supported my personal growth in meaningful ways.
After a car accident in 2022, my healing journey demanded both physical and mental resilience. What started as basic physical therapy soon evolved into a more intentional and holistic approach to fitness. I transitioned into strength training slowly, consistently, and purposefully, to restore stability in my spine and tailbone. Throughout that process, I learned to view movement not only as a tool for recovery, but as a vehicle for transformation, grounding, and self-discovery. It became clear to me that wellness is multidimensional, and the mind-body connection is powerful when nurtured with intention.
Several years ago, I was invited to begin hosting classes. Although the opportunity was promising, balancing a full-time career and a full-time academic load made it clear that I needed to wait for the moment when I could truly show up, not just physically, but fully and authentically. That moment finally arrived in June 2024, when I officially launched my Rhythm Fit classes. Though my situation hadn’t changed too much, I had felt a shift and began intentionally walking in my purpose. The experience was more than a milestone; it was the culmination of everything I had healed from, learned through, and grown into. From the very first class, I recognized that I had found my people—individuals who valued not just fitness, but connection, joy, and holistic well-being.
Since then, my work has continued to expand in ways that feel aligned with my purpose. From collaborating with grade-school STEM students through 3D Girls Inc., to creating supportive spaces for young girls to embrace movement and confidence, to partnering with The Center for Black Women’s Wellness to promote accessible health resources within the community, each experience has deepened my commitment to service. These partnerships allow me to reach individuals across different ages and stages of life, ensuring that wellness remains inclusive, empowering, and culturally grounded.
Through every class, collaboration, and community initiative, I remain dedicated to inspiring and uplifting others on their wellness journeys. It is my mission to create environments where people feel seen, supported, and motivated to prioritize their well-being—mind, body, and soul.
