We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Trenese McNealy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Trenese, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work-life balance has changed over time throughout the years from working part-time as a single woman in school, to working full-time as a single woman with her own business, to working full-time as a married mom of three children as she transitioned back into school, and to working full-time with multiples businesses. Having a successful work-life balance is very important for people to remain healthy at work, alleviate stress, and prevent burnout. When I am able to balance everything that is going on in my work and in my life, I feel better mentally and I am more productive at getting things done. Today, I am a wife, mom, author, and entrepreneur whose mission is to help moms maintain a healthy, work-life balance through successful Program and Project Management strategies. I have over 10+ years’ experience in Program, Project, and Grant Management with a Certified Associate in Project Management. My focus derived from my company, Dr. Trenese L. McNealy, LLC., established in 2020.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the CEO of two businesses: Dr. Trenese L. McNealy, LLC. and LaShay’s DESIGNS Boutique. Dr. Trenese L. McNealy, LLC. is a professional service management consultation company in which moms are provided with Program and Project Management strategies to maintain a successful work-life balance. LaShay’s DESIGNS is an online boutique in which women are provided with high-quality, apparel at reasonable prices under $39.95. What sets Dr. Trenese L. McNealy, LLC. apart from others is that I create books, e-books, worksheets, guides, webinars, consulting courses, virtual Lunch and Learns, and luncheons to helps moms maintain a healthy, work-life balance through successful Program and Project Management strategies. There are so many moms out there who want to achieve their goals and dreams, but may not believe they can do so because they are a mom. As a mother myself, I create content built with strategies that can help moms push through the everyday struggles by maintaining proper time management to fulfill not only the needs of their children, but their own passion in life. I create content that will help moms awaken the winner within them and power-up their goals. I also create content that will help moms embrace self care for themselves and allow them to surround themselves with empowering women. What sets LaShay’s DESIGNS from other boutiques is that although the apparel are of high-quality materials, everything is priced under $39.95 so the everyday woman can spice up her closet on a budget. Women should not have to spend all of their coins to look stylish. Being an entrepreneur is very challenging, especially when you also work a full-time position and have family responsibilities. I overcame my challenges by never giving up and thinking about what my success could do for my family overtime. I also wrote the book, Mommy’s Goals vs. Reality: Managing School, Work, and Family, a must-read, self-help book in which women are provided with successful strategies to manage their school, work, and family obligations as they aim to reach their goals. I describe the lessons learned from my doctoral journey, provides motivation and encouragement, and analyzes strategies working, student mothers used during their academics, professional careers, and family lifestyles. I wrote Mommy’s Goals vs. Reality: Managing School, Work, and Family to encourage other women not to give up on their educational or professional goals just because they are a mother or a wife. All mothers and wives can pursue any goal they aim to achieve if they are willing to work hard to succeed despite their family obligations. I am also the co-author of the Glambitious Guide to Being a Mompreneur in 2020, and I am currently working on a new book, A Mother’s Struggle to Success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hosted a family weekend getaway back in July 2019 for my family members to travel to Atlanta to see some of the activities Atlanta has to offer. Thus, we visited Stone Mountain Park for the Summit Skyride and Lasershow Snack Terrace. We also received a meal voucher there which we redeemed at Base Camp BBQ. We also visited the Apex Museum (African-American Museum), took family photos at the Steve & Virginia Tumlin Park at Hickory Hills, and enjoyed a day at Six Flags White Water Park Atlanta. We ate at various spots such as Golden Corral, Monkey Joe’s (for the kids to eat and play), The Juicy Crab, La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant, and Pittypat’s Porch Restaurant.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout-out to my husband, Brian McNealy, and my children, Brielle, Bryce, and Brayden, for understanding when I have to give-up some of my time to my work. I would also like to dedicate my shout-out my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many cousins for all the love and support they have provided me throughout the years. Family support is everything and I love my family!
