We had the good fortune of connecting with Donnisha Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donnisha, how do you think about risk?
Risks are essential. Risks are like experiments, you go in with this hypothesis or expectation. Sometimes you weigh the risk & reward and sometimes you don’t. For me, I do. Either I excel or I try again, and again until I get the result I need to manifest. Where I am professionally and personally is because of the risks I’ve taken. I moved to the East Coast from Los Angeles looking for new opportunities and growth. I am still growing and open to new opportunities, however, I have come so far in short timing. I owe that all to being a risk-taker.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am always inspired by the art around me. I use nature and life events to fuel my creativity. What sets me apart from others is the intention that goes into everything that I do from my candles to content. I am most proud of my resourcefulness and ability to maneuver through life with what I have. I got where I am today professionally by continuing to perfect my craft and picking up skills and knowledge at every job along the way. I picked up new software, shortcuts, and organization skills that enable me to run my business efficiently. The journey that I am on is not easy, but it is worth it. I understand that what I want out of this life comes with work and prayer. I use faith and music to get me through rough patches. I want the world to know that your circumstances does not define you. While society may put constraints on your life, that can not stop you from going after everything this life has for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place in the city is Piedmont Park. On any given spring or summer day you can bet Piemont Park is the place to be. Ride your bike on the Beltline, get a smoothie, then hit the park. It’s a whole vibe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandmother Billie Shaw was the first one to believe in my dreams. As a little girl, I wanted to do so much and she supported that without putting limits on me. Now, one of my biggest supporters is my brother. He owns more Scented by Sharee candles than I have myself. Shout out to my sisters for their constant support. My parents for supporting my move. My nieces and nephews for existing. They keep me inspired. My friends that I love so dearly. Shout out to everyone that has given me a chance. Love, love, love!
