Meet Dominic Turner | Executive Director & Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominic Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominic, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Having a natural ability to bring people together to accomplish a common goal is the single most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand. Coalition building is at the core of community advocacy work and the better your are at forming coalitions the more effective you will be as a community advocate.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I’m Dominic Turner, the Executive Director and Founder of the Turner Foundation for Community Advocacy, Inc., where I lead efforts to empower underserved communities through advocacy, mentorship, and scholarship programs. With a focus on youth development and community upliftment, my work has helped secure over $1.5 million in resources for Southwest Atlanta, positively impacting more than 18,000 residents.

Professionally, with over 15 years of experience in corporate sales, business development, and leadership, having held senior roles at companies like Modern Health, Box, Inc., OpenText, and Dell SecureWorks. In these roles, I successfully led multimillion-dollar sales campaigns, fostered long-term client relationships, and helped organizations navigate digital transformations. My leadership experience in both the nonprofit and corporate sectors has equipped me with a unique blend of skills in strategic planning, partnership development, and sales growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The itinerary would include indoor and outdoor activities and adventures.
To start off we would hit downtown with dinner at the Sundial restaurant where we can see the entire city in around 45 minutes, thanks to the revolving floor that provides a 360 degree panoramic view of the entire city while we enjoy dinner and drinks.
Next we would hit the Giants exhibit at the High Museum featuring Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys.
Atlanta has restaurants to satisfy every tastebud so we could spend every day in a different part of town tasting a dish with cultural influences for around the world and never hit the same restaurant twice during the visit while following that up with sights and sounds from the First Fridays at the Underground Atlanta! An amazing immersive experience into Atlanta’s art, food, and house music culture!
The trip would not be complete until we raced go karts at Atlanta Motorsports Park where karts hit speeds upwards of 70 miles per hour on a huge outdoor race track boasting the highest elevation change in the entire country for a kart track!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Surround yourself with people much wiser than yourself and follow their advice. This has always been my life motto and guiding principal.
Having read many books along my journey that encourage me in some way or another there is one that stands out above all the rest, The Alchemist, by Paul Coehlo. The journey we take in life is a journey of self discovery and this book speaks directly to that quest. I often return to this book to remind myself that the journey is just as important as reaching the destination and that the greatest lessons take place inside our own mind, heart and soul. My wife, Mandissa, has watched and supported this life transformation with not only her words but her actions – all of which encourage me to keep on keeping on.
I’ve been blessed to have known many outstanding mentors throughout my adult life and professional career and through my foundation I was able to bring many of them all together to take this amazing journey with me. Sunshine Hodges is one of those special souls. A friend and former co-worker, Sunshine accepted when I asked her to join our board of advisors and since that initial call has helped me to take this foundation to heights I could have only previously imagined and for that I thank her for seeing my vision and helping it grown in to an awesome organization that has already positively impacted the lives of so many people.
