We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Weaver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
This is a question til this day I often ask myself and each time I come to the same conclusion. The short answer is that being able to create simply makes me happy. I’ve been blessed enough to have a creative mind so I would be negligent if I did not share that with the world. Ultimately what I love about this path is that each time I create I get to share something the world has never seen that is experienced differently by each individual. Now due to technology my work can be seen as my own digital footprint for years to come.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to take any environment and make it my creative playground using the bare minimum equipment. It hasn’t always been easy but consistency is key (plus a whole lot of Youtube videos). The best thing I’ve learned on this journey is what matters most is that you love your work and creating something I love to look at excites me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a major movie buff so a movie or two will definitely be seen and we could take out two birds with one stone and go to the theaters at Atlantic Station. One of the days we would definitely have to visit Top Golf. I’ve only been once but I really enjoyed it. Also hopefully an event is going on at Piedmont Park and food trucks are there as that is always enjoyable. Speaking of food I’ll just make a list of places we’d check out through the week: Sweet Auburn Seafood, Slutty Vegan, Paschals, and for dessert Cold Stone Creamery. (It’s Atlanta so one night will end with Waffle House)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I would like to shoutout my wife who invested a camera and laptop into me that has allowed me to practice my creative work which has brought me so many opportunities and her ongoing support. I also would like to thank my close friends and family who support me by shouting out my work, giving me advice, helping me get booked, and even being models at times. With that being said I would also like to thank all the photographers and models I’ve worked with that has also made me a better creator! All these individuals keep me going.
