We had the good fortune of connecting with Dj Necii and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Establishing my own business holds significant importance for me, as my creative mindset drives me to explore unconventional ideas. Owning a business provides the opportunity to translate my concepts into reality. My passion for fashion, music, and dance is integral to my identity. I began designing clothing due to the frequent issue of store-bought items either being too large or too small, allowing me to create garments tailored specifically to my body. Additionally, my love for music and dance led me to pursue DJing, a passion I have nurtured since the age of five. The combination of these elements is truly remarkable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am both a DJ and a designer, driven by a profound enthusiasm for fashion and music. During the COVID pandemic, I developed the ability to create my own clothing, and each year presents me with new and unique projects to tackle.

A year ago, I ventured into DJing, motivated by my passion for dance and music, inspired by artists such as TxC, Uncle Waffles, DBN Gogo, and Success SA. Their success in a predominantly male industry has shown me that women are capable of achieving anything we aspire to.

Engaging in DJing or design, akin to numerous other skills, presents significant challenges. Many individuals perceive DJing as merely pressing buttons and playing tracks, yet the reality encompasses far more complexity than is commonly understood. Similarly, in design, even minor errors can lead to frustration and a desire to abandon the task, as it involves much more than simply stitching fabric together.

Throughout my journey, I have come to appreciate the importance of perseverance, the power of prayer, and the value of teamwork.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend were to visit, I would certainly take them to Bamba Tuesday’s featuring DJs Millz, Kash, and Danger Vybez, followed by Afropianoatl Thursdays with DJs Magic Kenny, Seb, and myself.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to God for guiding me to unexpected paths and opportunities. Additionally, I extend my sincere thanks to my parents for their unwavering support and for providing me with the resources necessary for my success. Finally, I am deeply appreciative of the Afropianoatl team, particularly DJ Magic Kenny and Purusha Weeks. Kenny has been a mentor to me, consistently motivating my progress, while Purusha has been a steadfast source of encouragement. I am truly thankful for their support.
