We had the good fortune of connecting with Dinika Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dinika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind my brand was two parts. Growing up both of my grandmother’s baked the most delicious desserts. They are both wonderful women who play a large role in my life growing up. I wanted to find a way to continue to honor them and share with the world about who they are. I’ve always loved art and the process of creating so baking was the perfect marriage between the two once I realized I could incorporate art into my baking. I need my business Eva Christine’s Sweets after both of my grandmothers, and have been able to share with the world about you through the process of creating desserts

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing most people are surprised to find out about me is that baking is not my full-time job. I have a full-time career in athletic training and I work in the sports medicine department at Northside Hospital. I was a collegiate athletic trainer for 17 years. Three years ago, God put it on my heart to change the path I was going in with my career and I started working at the hospital, which gave me more time to focus on Eva Christine’s Sweets.

In 2012 the idea of Eva Christine’s Sweets came to me, but I was too busy working so the change in career path has opened up a lot of doors for me.

I find the most joy in being able to create something from the heart and having people love my work and being a part of and bringing joy to someone’s memory. My goal is to one day have a full-time bakery. I would love to spend all day, baking, and creating cake art.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta has a lot of hidden gyms and creative people. I really enjoy going down to the beltline and looking at the art along the beltline while visiting so many of the different restaurants along the way. It’s amazing to see people expressed their creative space with the world.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d first like to thank God for giving me this desire and ability to do something in a creative space that I never thought I’d be able to do. I’d like to shout out my family and friends that have been supportive from the beginning by encouraging, purchasing desserts and sharing with others about Eva Christine Sweets.
I’d also like to shout all the customers that have trusted me to create cakes for monumental moments in their lives.
