We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Dezir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desiree, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Well I took a risk moving to Atlanta shortly after highschool . I had no family no friends here in the state of Georgia let alone in the city of Atlanta, and being from a small town Huntsville, Alabama I didn’t have many creative resources like Atlanta did . So I packed up my Nissan Altima with my clothes , dreams and a couple of dollars lol . In life you have to take big risk if you want bigger gains you can’t play small and expect life to hand you over grand opportunities. You must fail take notes and not be afraid to take more risk by beginning again . I’m big on transformation I don’t like doing the same thing day in and day out . I took a risk during the pandemic quitting my full time job to work independent boy was I in for an adventure full of surprises both good and not so great surprises however over all I still managed to persevere.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like having the ability to tap into my clients not just on the surface level I love to dig deep. I am a transformative artist so sitting in my chair is more than just getting a haircut, color and extensions. Most of my clients have chose me not only for my talent but how I make them feel ,my ability to listen and empathize with them on a deeper level. I wouldn’t say it was easy getting to where I am today I experienced a ton of challenges in my personal and professional life along the way . However I always stuck to the script I had a plan to be creative based on my own artistic abilities and if I had to quit jobs, sacrifice wants over needs, lose friends and lovers I was okay with that. I never let distractions take me off course I always stuck to the script by being the main character to my story ! If it meant investing my last penny on continuing my education I did that ! If it meant withdrawing myself from the social scene to focus on my career I did that ! You are only young once you have the rest of your life to celebrate your achievements. So I invested more into what was most important like perfecting my craft , social skills, as well as business skills .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow lol I’m boring now however back the day I was outside outside lol !
I’m a little more reserved now I love Trap yoga Sundays at the Loftatl such a vibe ! I’m a yogi and @yogaplayground has a great class so we would finish the week there definitely . We would definitely hit some Planta Soul for some vegan eats! Rumi’s kitchen any day of the week ! If it’s the Basketball season check out the Hawks ! High Museum for some artsy vibes ! I used to be an MJQ girl so we would definitely hit the Q. Maybe hit a festival in the park or chill on the beltline and people watch . Delbar Inman park is a vibe we definitely have to check out also . I’m pretty random I don’t plan on going out I put a finger In the air and go in which ever direction the wind blows me lol.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give most of my credit to God and my Grandpa the late Dr.Prince Preyer. My Grandpa was very influential in my life as far as Etiquette, philosophy through agriculture and business mentorship he molded me well . I must credit my mother also for teaching me financial literacy at the young age of 8 . Aside from them I had a hand full of friends whom I still associate with til this day that gave me encouragement by just allowing me to be my authentic self. I had humble beginnings that’s the foundation I built on.
