We had the good fortune of connecting with Derin Lindsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derin, how do you think about risk?
Taking a risk on myself and my gift was been extremely beneficial. I am now a full time entrepreneur! After being let go from my job in corporate America I made the decision not to apply for another job but to bet on myself! So far it’s been very rewarding.

Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I believe it’s passion that sets me apart from others in my field and the ability to evolve over the years! I’ve added so much to my business since I started nearly 10 years ago. I’m most proud of my latest project The Branding Box. I don’t want to just design for one time events but I want to be essential in helping a business start from the group up. But contributing to it’s overall brand look and feel. It wasn’t always easy and it’s still a learning process but I love that I have a system in place that allows me to book clients and receive payment. I would want the world to know that I really am passionate not only about design but about small businesses and there growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So here in New Orleans we would definitely do happy hour at Desi Vegas. The menu is priced extremely low and the food is legit excellent. I’d probably go to Vandal Hookah Bar after! Now if this was before COVID I’d suggest a bike ride through the French Quarters and through Midcity to grab a po-boy at Parkway Tavern and drinks at Wrong Iron.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to say Victoria Sharpe and Craig Mitchell. I volunteered to design a flyer for a stage play that I was in in college. Victoria gave me the opportunity to design but it was Craig Mitchell who keep pushing me to create things that I knew I didn’t have the skill to do lol!
