We had the good fortune of connecting with Dena Saginor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dena, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think every time we take a step outside of our comfort zone we’re taking a risk. Trying new things is hard and risky because you could fail. Risk taking has played a huge role in my life. The first major risk I took as an adult was moving to Atlanta from Cleveland, OH. I didn’t know anyone except my then fiancé (now husband) and I left my family behind. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I love my life here in the south. Then I decided to start a second career in photography. I went back to school as a mother of two. Each time I stepped into a classroom for the first time it was another step outside of my comfort zone, another risk. Each time I put my art work out there there’s a risk that others won’t like it, or will critique too harshly. Starting my own business has been one of the biggest risks I have taken both financially and personally. Failure terrifies me but everyday I just keep putting myself out there and hope for the best.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a family lifestyle photographer. I think every family is unique and beautiful and that deserves to be captured and celebrated. I cherish the genuine moments between family members and A photograph will save that moment in time forever. Starting a small business was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It took me 3 years to get it off the ground and running. I like to set small achieve-able goals for myself and that helps me to keep moving forward. Ive learned how to push myself out of my comfort zone and how to grow from my past mistakes. I want the world to know that I want to capture each unique beautiful soul.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in Atlanta is definitely the Aquarium. So if my best friend were visiting that is the first stop we would make. I love an Atlanta Beltline Bike tour and think it’s a great way to see and learn about the city. BBQ joints are a must for anyone visiting so Williamson Bros BBQ. We would also go for some relaxing evenings in eating and drinking anywhere in Marietta Square.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be here today with out my husband Ryan Saginor. He supports every move I make and is always behind me cheering me on.
