We had the good fortune of connecting with Demetro Bacon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demetro, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Palmetto, Florida A small town in Florida close to Sarasota, Florida. My background & upbringing impacted me in a good positive way. My nana and Mom are my lifelines. I thank them so much for me and my great values I share and qualities. Being respective and obeying your elders was all I was ever taught. Where I’m from a lot of people don’t make it out and especially at my age being I’m 23. I’m very blessed and thankful for the family I have and cherish.

 Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is very special to me.

My most excited piece that I have made this far is “your fear of looking stupid is holding you back”

I got to where I am professionally by making a lot of connects and believing in myself and telling myself everyday I will make it I will become successful in the fashion industry.

My art is very colorful. I love color I rarely make anything black. White is ok because it goes with everything. My favorite color is red but pink is becoming my favorite at this point lol…

Starting my brand wasn’t easy for me because I’m a over-thinker and I’m also very indecisive. I feel like it gets easier along the way because you already get use to seeing colors swatches and samples.

My lessons I learned along the way is always keep God first. Also be original and let ideas flow to you. Don’t over think and don’t ask for many opinions. 1/2 is fine but always believe in yourself and the work you put out.

I want the world to know that I don’t mind taking strict criticism and I’m here to stay and I want to impact the new generation coming up behind me to do whatever they want you just have to be consistent and patient.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

It’s the best soul foul ever ! I promise lol I would take my best friend there and we would enjoy drinks and the bomb food.

I would also visit echo park and go to the markets and buy cool stuff (I’m very sentimental ) not flashy

The most fun and interesting places to visit and check out is Definitely Los Angeles and New York City lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to my beautiful mother shelleatha gillyard-smith. She always believed in me and she knew I was a creative child growing up because I would always be the most fashionable out of all three of my siblings lol. She’s a very strong women and she sticks to her word and I can’t have a better person to call mommy.
