Meet Demarkus (Zem) Hurt | Music Producer & Music Engineer & Songwriter & Videographer & Film Editor & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Demarkus (Zem) Hurt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Demarkus (Zem), is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say the most important factor behind my success is my family and friends. Their constant support, encouragement, and belief in me push me to aim higher and keep improving on my art. Having people who truly want to see me win has been a major foundation of my growth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come in music, photography, and film. When I look back at where I started versus where I am now, the growth is undeniable. Over the years, I’ve learned how to sharpen my craft, push my creativity, and take criticism in a healthier way than I did when I was 16. Those lessons helped shape not only my art, but who I am as a creator.
I’m also extremely excited about releasing my third studio album, ZTZT (Zemendments). This project means a lot to me because I’m working with new people and approaching my creative process in a completely different way. It represents evolution both musically and personally.
Becoming an entrepreneur at a young age was far from easy. I had to do extensive research, build connections from the ground up, and learn how to run multiple businesses with very limited resources. Time and money were major challenges, but I never allowed that to stop me. I continued creating, building, and believing in my vision even during moments when giving up felt easier.
What kept me going was the support of my friends, who constantly reminded me not to walk away from what I’m passionate about. To this day, I continue to create and share my art with the world whether through music, photography, or film.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d definitely take them to Little Five Points in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s one of my favorite areas because it feels cozy, creative, and welcoming to everyone. The energy there is unmatched it’s full of personality, culture, and people who aren’t afraid to be themselves.
We’d spend the day hopping between thrift stores, especially my favorite spot that always has the best finds. Little Five Points is perfect for digging through vintage clothes, records, and one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find anywhere else. After shopping, we’d grab food at one of the many local spots around the area and end the night at a bar or just hanging out, people-watching and soaking in the atmosphere.
Over the course of the week, we’d keep coming back checking out the street art, supporting local creatives, meeting interesting people, and just letting the city inspire us. Little Five Points represents everything I enjoy about Atlanta: creativity, individuality, and community. It’s the kind of place where you can just be yourself and have a great time doing it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutout goes to my mother. When I was just starting out in music, she said something that stayed with me and still motivates me to this day, “You made me proud with that album.” She said this when my little brother, Kayden, and I released our first EP together. Hearing those words meant more to me than she’ll ever know it gave me confidence, validation, and the strength to believe in myself during a time when I was still figuring everything out.
I also want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my uncle, my father’s brother, who believed in my vision early on. He invested in music equipment so I could continue creating and growing as an artist. That support wasn’t just about equipment it was belief, trust, and love. Without that encouragement, my journey wouldn’t look the same.
