Meet Dee Seymore | Masc-OFF Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dee Seymore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dee, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The habits I feel like that have helped me succeed are consistency, the willingness to connect with various types of people, seeking out new and different experiences to enhance my knowledge base, being ambitious and self-discipline.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Public Health practitioner by trade and I absolutely love what I do. I am currently a Public Health doctoral student with a mission to improve health quality for those all, specifically those that are part of the LGBTQ and/or Black community. I have worked diligently to get to where I am today. It was not easy but it has been worth it! I did have periods where I had to stop pursuing my academic career to work full time in supporting myself but during those times I gained some great field experience. During this journey, I have learned that everyone’s path is different and that is okay, it does not have to look the same as someone else but that does not mean it is wrong or will not get you the outcome you are seeking. I hope from the brand Masc-OFF that as masculine presenting women we are able to build a supportive community for each other and not feel the need to be in competition with each other. We can create an environment that our younger generation does’t have to heal from.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I would take them to the Tiki bar in downtown Decatur for drinks, for a delicious dinner we would go to Delbar then on to Cremalosa for the best gelato in the world! For hanging out, we’d got to Atlantic Station for some random fun, perhaps catch a movie or go bowling. Atlanta is a great city with so much to do! I enjoy all of the festivals, concerts, professional sports events, and diverse cuisines.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to God, I know that may sound cliche but God really is the one that deserves all the credit. I started this organization because I wanted to create a space that I got tired of not being able to experience. It was on my heart to do this for awhile but I kept putting it on the back burner, until one night, over a year ago God gave me the full vision and the name of the organization. I was half asleep and it just came to me! I also would like to thank all my friends that have helped me along the way with carrying out this vision, those that have traveled with me out of state to my events. those that have sponsored events for my full group of attendees such as Son In A Heart Foundation. I also would like to thank all the individuals I have connected with that have helped in some fashion to expand this vision from sharing with others, presenting opportunities or assisting with flushing out ideas.
