We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Olubu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deborah, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of Delightful Couture is undoubtedly the unwavering support and inspiration from my parents. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the fashion industry, I was surrounded by creativity and entrepreneurship from a young age. My parents, Dr. Joshua and Dr. Juliana Olubu, have always been my biggest cheerleaders, investing not only financially but also emotionally in my dreams.

Their belief in my vision and their willingness to provide me with the resources I needed—such as thousands of dollars worth of diverse fabrics and accessories—has been instrumental in my journey. This support has allowed me to experiment, learn, and grow as a self-taught designer.

Additionally, my passion for blending traditional African textiles with contemporary designs has set my brand apart. This unique approach resonates with a wide audience and has helped me carve out a niche in the fashion industry.

My commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and creating one-of-a-kind garments has been a driving force behind my brand’s success.

Ultimately, it’s the combination of my God-given talent, my parents’ support, my passion for fashion, and my dedication to innovation that has propelled Delightful Couture to where it is today.

What should our readers know about your business?
Delightful Couture is more than just a fashion brand; it’s a celebration of cultural diversity and creativity. What sets us apart is our unique approach to blending traditional African textiles like Ankara, Kente, and Kampala with contemporary fabrics. This fusion creates one-of-a-kind garments that resonate with our clients’ individuality and celebrate the beauty of both African and modern aesthetics.

I am incredibly proud of how far we’ve come since I started the business at the age of 12. One of the most exciting aspects of Delightful Couture is our mission to bring African fabrics to the international stage. Each piece we create tells a story, bridging the cultural heritage of my parents’ Nigerian roots with contemporary fashion trends.

Getting to where we are today has not been easy. As a young entrepreneur, I faced numerous challenges, from learning the intricacies of sewing and design to managing the business aspects of Delightful Couture.
However, with the unwavering support of my parents, who invested in high-quality fabrics and accessories, and the encouragement from my community, I was able to overcome these obstacles.

One of the key lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of perseverance and staying true to your vision. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, but I always reminded myself of my passion for fashion and my goal to make a difference in the industry. This mindset helped me push through difficult times and continue to grow.

What I want the world to know about Delightful Couture is that we are committed to celebrating cultural diversity and empowering others through fashion. Our designs are not just about clothing; they are about telling stories, celebrating heritage, and creating connections. We aim to inspire others to embrace their unique identities and express themselves through fashion.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Delightful Couture. We are excited about the future and look forward to continuing our journey of creativity and innovation.
