We had the good fortune of connecting with Darina Eid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve never had a singular “awakening” that pushed me towards an artistic career; it feels more like this path was ingrained in me from my earliest memories. I’ve always known deep down that I was destined to be an artist. It’s as if there was an inherent certainty about it that I carried with me from the beginning.

As I grow older, I find myself increasingly admiring the boldness—or perhaps what some might call “delusion”—of my younger self. There was never any doubt or hesitation; I simply knew this was my calling. I think the reason I pursued something that felt so intrinsic to my being is because I understood that if I didn’t at least try, I would carry regret with me for the rest of my life.

Looking back, I realize it wasn’t just about following a dream; it was about honoring a fundamental part of who I am. Embracing this path has been about staying true to myself and my deepest instincts, trusting that the journey itself would be its own reward, regardless of the outcome.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart is my work ethic. I truly believe that talent can only get you so far; what drives inevitable success, I believe, is commitment, consistency, and creativity. That being said, sometimes it sounds much easier said than done. It is extremely hard not to get discouraged in an environment where, in my experience, 98% of audition outcomes are rejections. But those 2% are truly life-changing and make every setback worthwhile.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that no matter the obstacle, you must keep going, as everyone says all the time. But my addition to that is to also let yourself feel. We are not robots who can just stand up and keep going. I think part of consistency is also taking time to rest, grieving certain jobs one wants so badly, and having a whole life outside of your art. I think that is what keeps me going—my abundant life.

Personally, I believe that when one puts all their cards only into their career, a setback feels like the end of the world, contrary to having a great support system where it feels like part of the journey. In other words, let the abundance in your life be the force that pushes you forward.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently moved to Brooklyn after many years in Manhattan, and now I’d love to share a perfect day in Brooklyn with my best friend. We’d start by grabbing Citibikes and cruising along the waterfront in Williamsburg, with stunning views of Manhattan beside us. We’d pause for coffee at a cozy local spot, then take our treats to Marsha P. Johnson State Park, where we’d relax on the grass, soaking in the serene surroundings.

For lunch, I’d take my friend to Tonchin Brooklyn for the city’s best ramen, including their quirky and delightful “pizza ramen” option. In the afternoon, we’d explore the unique thrifting scene at spots like Buffalo Exchange, Beacon’s Closet, Crossroads Trading, and Urban Jungle. As the sun begins to set, we’d head to Domino Park to enjoy beach volleyball on the courts.

After freshening up, our evening would conclude with dinner and drinks at St. Mazie Bar, a charming jazz venue. It truly would be an epic Brooklyn day, filled with local flavor, scenic views, and memorable experiences.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, sisters, and grandparents collectively deserve every ounce of recognition for my success. When I reflect on attributing credit to any single person, I find it an impossible task. Each of them has played an indispensable role in shaping who I am today. Coming from a close-knit Latin family, our values of community and familial bonds run deep and steady.

My mother instilled in me unwavering discipline, a pillar of strength that has guided me through challenges and triumphs alike.
My father ignited in me a profound passion for the arts. My sisters have been unwavering sources of support and endless fountains of inspiration for my creativity. My grandparents, with their boundless love and wisdom, have been foundational forces in my life. Their unwavering belief in me has provided the strength and motivation to pursue my dreams relentlessly.

Together, as a family, they have created an environment where I could flourish, learn, and grow. Their collective influence has shaped not just my achievements, but also my character and values. I am deeply grateful for their guidance, love, and support throughout my journey. I truly do not know if I would have ever accomplished anything without a family that has believed in me unconditionally.
