We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Fisher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance in the corporate world for me was always a challenge. I traveled over 100 days a year working in sports and entertainment. It was a fun career – absolutely – but once I began a family, it became harder to travel with that much frequency. Shifting to a career in entreprenuership was one of the greatest things for work-life balance as I was all of a sudden able to create my own schedule. There are certainly weeks or months where I am in our stores more often than anyone else, but I can still schedule around attending a soccer game or being home for the bus.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s funny. I own an axe throwing business and for many years, I did not really pay much attention to my throwing ability. Sure, I could stick an axe in the board and teach it, but not until the last two years or so did I begin to take competition seriously. As of September 2024, I was ranked 70th of all professional axe throwers that put up scores in the World Axe Throwing League. Certainly, there’s signfiicant growth still required to improve that number further, but the shift from being a business owner only to a competitor has been exciting.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re fortunate to own a store location inside The Works ATL in West Midtown. Our store is sandwiched in between Fox Bros Bar-B-Que and Dr. Scofflaw Brewing which happen to be two of my favorite places to frequent in Atlanta. I think we would also spend a good bit of time enjoying Smyrna / Vinings, which is where I live. The Social Vinings community has become a great place to entertain friends and family highlighted for me by sushi from Orient Express.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our staff. The team that we have assembled at American Axes has become world-class talented at axe throwing, but I am proud to say that we are creating top-level talent in the customer service field. All of our people are tremendous with their customer interactions – just read our reviews. I have answered this question many times before and we are still in business through some of the most challenging economic times in our history because of who we have working for us.
