We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create natural skincare products that help problematic skin, without the use of harsh chemicals or medications. I grew up in a home where the first entrepreneur I ever saw was my mom. She worked so hard to provide for us. She did hair, planned events, and cooked for people. She taught us the value of hard work and dedication. I always knew I would have my own business I just didn’t know when. Skincare and beauty has always been a passion of mine. I suffered with acne and eczema since I was a little girl and because of that I was very insecure.

Every time I went to the doctor they always prescribed me so many medications that had adverse effects on my body and never helped. My mom and I spent so much money and nothing never worked! So I researched and took lots of courses to learn natural ways to help elevate the issues I had. Once I had children I noticed they also had some of the same skin issues as I did. I didn’t want to give them the harsh medications or steroids so I started creating their skincare products. In 2019 while pregnant with my 2nd child I was laid off from my job of 13 years. I was terrified. However, I felt God was putting me in an uncomfortable situation to help elevate me. During the pandemic my husband encouraged me to start my won business and we have been up and running ever since!

We create natural handmade skincare products for all skin types, with amazing ingredients that are great for your skin. Our mission is not only to help your but also to let everyone know that regardless of the issues you may be having you are still beautiful/handsome. Our motto is that “Self-Confidence is your Super-Power”.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is LumiBeauty (lovelumibeauty.com). We are a beauty brand offering natural, vegan, and organic handcrafted skincare products. We also offer beauty tools that will allow you to have a luxury spa experience in the comfort of your home. What sets our brand and products apart from other companies is the love we have and pour into our products & customers. My business started out as a hobby and now is my full time job. However, I love what I do with creating and formulating natural skincare products so much that this really doesn’t feel like work. We listen to what our customers love and need and we create products they want and that actually work. We use high quality essential oils and natural ingredients to create products that not only look good but really helps and nourishes your skin. I’ve always created my own skincare products for myself and my kids but starting a business is not easy at all. We had so many challenges in the beginning. I was already laid off and my husband was the only one working. We started this business during a pandemic and he was furloughed shortly after. However, we didn’t let that stop us. We decided not to get any loans and I used my savings to start. I took a risk on myself and had faith in God that everything would work out. This was the best decision I’ve ever made. To see how far we have come and grown and to see the smiles and great reviews from my customers speaks volumes! I’m so happy we took that leap of faith and started this business. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If one of my friends were visiting we would definitely visit Ponce City Market. It’s so much to do we would eat, shop, and go to the rooftop to play some games and have fun. Since we all love taking selfies I’d also have to let them visit the selfie museum to get some great photos!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to Shoutout my husband, mother, and kids. They uplift me, encourage me, pray for me and really believe that there is nothing I can’t do. My kids motivate me everyday to be better. I also want to Shoutout GOD because without God nothing is possible.
