We had the good fortune of connecting with Chibueze Obiako and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chibueze, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a young graduate of chemical engineering with vast knowledge of industrial operations, I strongly believe that my principal role in the chemical industry is to convert available raw materials into variety of products for public consumption. My quest for a lucrative business to earn a living after my graduation, since there’s no job within the country makes me to start thinking about “SOAP PRODUCTION BUSINESS”.
The major raw material used in soap making is richly available within my zone. South eastern Nigeria is popularly known for their palm oil and palm kernel production which constitutes at least 60% of soap production raw materials. Therefore, I’ve no other option, than to utilize this surplus available raw materials to make a product that is widely used internationally. Soap making is a fast growing business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
During my childhood stage in life, the creative ability in me were more visible to everyone around how I became enamored with making things at home.. when ever I came across any product item or a finished artwork, I begin to imagine the constituents, procedures and process involved to make it a finished product. Shortly after my secondary School education at Bishop shanahan college, orlu. I was trained to work as an engine operator at Ezinne oil mill industries Ltd. The company/ establishment was aimed at utilising surplus agricultural products within the region. There products includes: ,
* Palm oil
* Palm kernel
* Garri processing.
This is were I worked before I got admission to study chemical engineering at Anambra state University (ANSU). Now, Chukwuemeka odumegwu ojukwu University (COOU). Were I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Chemical engineering.
My entrepreneural ambition were more triggered during my undergraduate internship program at Afro-Asia automobile industry Nnewi Anambra state. A subsidiary of Chicason group of companies were I was exposed to many industrial operations at
* Afro-Asia(Plastic / Nylon production.
* A-Z petroleum products (Lubricants/ grease production).
* Promotex industries (Soap production).
*Resource and improvement manufacturing company-RIMCO (Crushing /extraction and bleaching of palm kernel oil (PKO).
The high level of exposure during this program really equipped me to start my own establishment as an entrepreneur when there’s no job opportunity.
No wonder I was selected among thousands of corps members during my national youth service year (NYSC) 2011 to participate in a war against poverty (WAP) program were each participant is entitled with a sum of four hundred and fifty naira(450,000) using their discharge certificates as a collateral for the said loan. But I was discouraged by my colleagues not to accept the condition of using my NYSC discharge certificate as a collateral for the said loan. Hoping for a favourable employment after the program, but employment in my country depends on whom you know not what you can offer.
This period was so tough for me due to lack of capital to start my own business.
I was courageous to acquire more skills on
* Painting/paint production.
* General landscaping.
* Stamp Crete floor designs etc.
Thank God for my clients who has been patronising me till date. It was through this medium I was able to save money and establish a batch process soap production and the project was aimed at utilising our surplus agricultural products such as palm oil and palm kernel oil which constitutes at least 60% of the soap production raw materials.

WHAT SETS ME APART FROM OTHERS
What sets me apart from others are my good qualities which includes;
* Determination
* Confidence
* Innovation and
* Consistency.
HOW I GET TO WERE I AM TODAY, AND HOW I OVERCOME MY CHALLENGES .
Indeed it wasn’t an easy task for me to be were I am today but obedience and diligence to my duties has given me an impressive achievements.
Imagine acquiring a skill after graduation from the University to earn a living and save money to establish a business. I still went further to expand my business, manage my time, maintaining my budget and sustaining my revenues. I am really grateful to the God Almighty for his infinite mercy and grace towards my career and my clients/ customers also who patronises me.
LESSONS LEARNED
,
The lessons I’ve learned so far in this journey were as follows;
* Mistakes are part of the learning process, while failure is an opportunity to learn.
* Thinking positive about my projects and focusing on solutions rather than problems leads to success
* The vission of the business i embarked upon, additional efforts, and innovations, risk taking and management, believing in my self and ability is proportional to the level of success achieved.
