We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherrie McRae and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cherrie, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is Intentionality! I devote a large portion of my life and to positive and realistic self-talk, self-care and self-motivation. Personally, I’ve pinned ‘Intention’ as most important because I remember a time in my life I was oblivious to this amazing practice and it felt a lot like I was chasing my tail. It wasn’t until I began digging deeper and educating myself about the value of becoming truthfully clear about raw expectations; what I wanted out of life, out of certain circumstances and from people was when I began to truly see a better quality of life and living. This change in behavior was incremental but the more I practiced the better I had become. Intentionality looks like, waking up in the morning and declaring how I intend my day to flow. Whether this be a checklist system or audibly declaring aloud. For many of you who understand this practice and manage it day-to-day are well aware of it’s impact.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actor; local talent based in Atlanta, who works in multi-markets. What sets me a part? My greed for education. I do not believe there is a day that passes where I am not thinking about branding, re-branding and advancing myself nor my skills. Sharpening those skills sometimes look like reading source material or watching other great actors in film and television shows. I am most proud that I am constantly talking myself out of giving up. Excited about? Truthfully, I am genuinely excited about the ‘unknown’ aspect of my journey. How did I get to where I am today? Being both true to myself as it relates to my aspirations and ridiculously driven. There have been a few major undertakings that have scared me, but manage to repeatedly push past the fear dig my heels, breathe deep and go for it. I have learned so many lessons along the way, still learning actually. But the one that stands out is forcing myself not to cut corners. Regardless of the time it may take, don’t cheat yourself of the process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm…pre-covid? or post? lol
Well, I mainly like exploration while traveling to other cities/countries but if I had to go along with city limits I would have to choose Atlantic Station…I love that place and I believe that is my official go-to for out of town guests. Everything is in one location (eateries, entertainment, awesome scenery and great shopping)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I must give a wealth of credit to my immediate family. My parents Eddie and Felicia McRae, My brother Shelton and my Son CJ. They have held me down in every single area of my life for a as long as I can remember. They have celebrated my highs and oftentimes pulled me from the fire pit of my lows. They’ve observed me juggle and chase my passion of acting and the arts for many years. Collectively they have all taken turns encouraging me, being genuine and attentive to my on-going needs as an artist; patient and non-judgmental as the world of entertainment can be pretty fickle. Life would be drastically difficult without them in my corner.
