We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Cherry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I grew up watching my mom start and grow her small business, which gave me a firsthand understanding of the dedication, time, and sacrifice it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. In high school, I created graphic designs and even started a small Etsy store during the COVID pandemic. So, after graduating from college a year ago, I knew that starting Cherry Day Art would be daunting, but it was something I was passionate about.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My artistic journey began at the age of six, I attended a studio painting copies of Van Gogh. I particularly remember painting Starry Night because I was given the artistic freedom to paint the houses, and, of course, I made them bright pink—a color that has since become a signature in my work. These childhood classes, taken just for fun, had a profound impact on my artistic style, sparking a love for bold brush strokes and vibrant colors. I graduated from Clemson University in 2023 and moved to Northern Virginia, where I started my art business, Cherry Day Art.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am currently based in Northern Virginia, about 10 minutes from DC. I would love to take them to the Smithsonian museums, especially the National Portrait Gallery, where some of my favorite paintings are displayed. I’d also show them around iconic DC areas like Georgetown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a huge shout-out to my parents, who signed me up for a painting class when I was six and have been unwavering in their support of my art ever since. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their encouragement, support, and love. I am also grateful to my partner, Minhyun Shin, for their constant support and belief in me. Additionally, I had the incredible opportunity to have Sari Shryack as a mentor during the early stages of my business. She helped me build the foundations and gave me the confidence to keep going!
