We had the good fortune of connecting with Camilah Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camilah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Initially, nervous. My first time stepping out on my own faith and being my own boss. It was definitely nerve wrecking and I knew this was something I was very passionate about and I was ready to make it happen.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Clark Atlanta University business finance graduate. Throughout my corporate professional career, I really perfected my craft and cooking and food photography became my passion.
While working in corporate America, I published my cooking on Amazon. During COVID, I was let go of my 12 year profession so I had to think quick.
What’s next for Me? What will I do? I decided to use a portion My 401k savings to build my first food truck. The total cost was around $60k. Within the first year, my business really took off. I was able to pay off my entire truck and pay myself back.
A year later, I was approached by Omar Ali owner of Ali at Lakewood about a vacancy for a potential restaurant at his location. Without hesitation, I signed a 3 year contract and Love at First Bite Brunch restaurant opened a year later, i built out every inch of my location.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to brunch first.. a few of my favorite locations: Le Petite Marche, Toast on Lenox and Breakfast at Barney’s and Black Coffee.
We would visit piedmont park and historic landmarks. I’m a huge fan of the beltline. I love That everything is within walking distance.
There are so many amazing entrepreneurs in the city I would definitely recommend my girl to stop by and check them out during their stay:
Lashes: Sooodazzling
Hair: Hairbyalicia, Visionsofnu, Adoseofnustylez
Fitness: prettyfitbyj, daily Pilates
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother (RIP) is definitely my “WHY”. She was the motivating factor and reason for my entire chef career. I learned my skill, technique from my mother and really developed a strong passion for cooking after years of watching my mother in the kitchen.
Another shout would go to my business mentor friend Darryl.
