We had the good fortune of connecting with Cam Norton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cam, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Truthfully, the answer is simple: I never really had much of an option. No matter what I do, the drive to create never goes away. As a matter of fact, the farther I stray from a creative path, the more I feel as though I’m doing something innately wrong, or like I am wasting time. Life is fleeting and fragile, and to deny myself the urge to create would be a disservice to not only myself, but to those around me who love me and love what I do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist, it helps to try and experience as much as possible. To feel everything a person can feel, so that it’s easier to channel emotion into your art. I believe that is what helps to set me apart from others, as I’ve been lucky enough to have a very diverse life in ways not many folks have- while keeping an open mind and an open heart to the joy, pain, and love along the way. There’s a delightful touch of irony about that, though; in the journey of “setting myself apart,” I also learn new and beautiful ways of connecting with people- therein becoming less separate at the same time. Such is the duality of the artist, I suppose.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, this may be the hardest question of all! Atlanta is so beautifully diverse and full of innovation and creativity, it’s tough to narrow it down. I suppose I would certainly want to eat at Talat Market, that place is delicious. That, or we would hit a bunch of places on Buford Highway to try all the dumplings and dim sum. So many great places around there.
I grew up around Little 5 as well, so we would likely hit up Junkman’s Daughter, swing into Criminal Records, grab a drink at the Porter. Can’t miss the High museum, and if there’s a show at the Variety Playhouse or the Eastern, that would be a killer time too.

So many options- it’s tough to say!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout so, so many people. My family, my wife, friends, fans of my songs, people who have inspired me- but that list is far too long. I’m sure that they all know I love them.
If I’m to choose one person, I’m going to shoutout my dear friend Kevin Pergantis, who I’m lucky enough to also have as my engineer and producer as well. His exceptional capabilities as an audio engineer are only surpassed by his intuitive ear and vision for music. Him and I work so well together, music just flows in a way that allows for true artistic expression- and that is where the magic really happens.
