We had the good fortune of connecting with Calvin Harrington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Calvin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Wasn’t really a thought I was asleep on my couch unemployed at the time and I dreamt I was at the mall and everyone around me was wearing Roleplay Apparel. I had never heard of it so I googled it and found out there was no such thing. I took that as an immediate sign from above and got to work!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Roleplay Apparel is a brand I created based off a dream I had. The main objective of Roleplay Is to stop playing a role in order to be accepted; instead accept yourself and own who you are. Hence our slogan “own your role” people are dealt many different cards in life and ultimately it’s up to you whether you are gonna own it or let it own you. Plus who doesn’t want to look good while they’re bossing up and owning life lol. Starting Roleplay Apparel was easier than I thought from a technical standpoint. The struggle has been getting people to notice the little brand that could. Patience and determination is what’s needed when starting out as a nobody! Roleplay still has a ways to go before it competes with larger brands but we are here to stay and growing everyday! We turn 2 New Year’s Day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are seafood lovers so definite Krab Queenz! Love us some Titi! I’m a bit of a foodie and kinda bougie lol so I love Polaris. Being that I’m originally from Philly everyone has to stop at magic city at least once or ain’t no sense in coming all this way! And we are definitely gonna have to put some miles on our Fitbit taking laps around Lennox square and I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t sneak a little education in with the fun so we definitely are hitting up the National Center for Civil and Human Rights plus I get inspired to design from all types of stuff so always scoping for inspiration

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Good friend of mine Davon Clark. Growing up he’s always been a driven individual. Once he gets an idea he’s going to do it and master it. I’ve always wanted his drive.
