We had the good fortune of connecting with Caila Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caila, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are necessary for a great life. I am definitely a calculated risk taker, and I have learned to be okay with everyone not understanding. It has always paid off though. Currently I have taken a risk by moving to Atlanta and running my Florida based law firm remotely. I moved here to pursue my dream of being a television legal analyst. Atlanta has more opportunities in media and is a great place for networking. You never know who you will meet or who will have the key to your next door of success. As they say, “the greater the risk, the greater the reward.”

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of Coleman Law, LLC based in Orlando, Fl. I practice family law and criminal defense. I am most proud of helping fathers who have had a hard time receiving the same rights as mother when it comes to children. Dads are often overlooked and deemed incapable of raising children with the same ability as Mothers. Time out for that, we need great Dads, and that is why I love representing them in paternity cases. I have had some of the most amazing clients. All they needed was someone to believe in them and assist them through the legal process.

I opened my firm in January 2016. It has definitely not been an easy journey. Although business ownership is admirable, people do not talk about the months when it’s tough to make ends meet, when you are exhausted, when you feel alone, and when you simply feel like tossing everything out of the window. Luckily, I have family, friends (and an amazing therapist) who remind me of how far I have come, my goals, and the success I have had along the way. You need people in your corner. That is the only way to make it in life.

I want the world to know that I do not aspire to be placed in one box. I am an attorney, BUT there is more to me than just that role. I also enjoy being on television, acting, boxing, hosting a podcast, performing random acts of kindness, and whatever else my heart desires. Life is meant to be lived. Therefore, I will live out my dreams, and I hope to inspire others to do so in the process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So, my bestie Kandice loves a good relaxing vacation. We would start out booking a massage or facial (I still haven’t found my “go-to” spot yet because there are so many to choose from). We would then have a nice dinner at Atlanta Fish Market. At some point, we would take random trips to Kroger just because we dont have any in Florida, and we are easily impressed lol. On the weekend we would head to Six Flags, and on Sunday…we brunch (Tribeca Restaurant for sure).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my Mother for speaking life over me and believing in my dreams; my family and friends for being an amazing support system; and my Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Sisters who have encouraged me along the journey.
