We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Stark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Britney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to be able to express my creativity in my work. I also wanted to be able to make people happy. I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny, I don’t want to be one of those people that allows life to happen to them. I want to be an active participant in the direction of my future. We have a choice in how our stories will be written I also wanted to take control of my time and how I allocated it. I knew pursuing entrepreneurship would be challenging, but I accept challenges. Building generational wealth was also a driving force being a Black Woman. I also wanted to create a safe luxury place where other Black women can explore different aesthetic treatments in a welcoming environment.

My thought process behind The Luxe Medspa was that if I created an environment for me to make a place for all these things and work at them on a daily basis, it would not be work; it would become my passion.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own The Luxe Medspa in Powder Springs, Georgia. We are a luxury medspa offering Botox, Dermal Fillers, IV Hydration, Prescription Weightloss, Post-Op Care, Body Contouring, Medical Skincare, and Body Waxing. We also partner with several Black-Owned Brands and feature their products in our retail boutique to bring more exposure to their unsung talents. My idea behind The Luxe Medspa was to combine health, luxury, and soul into one. I got to where I am today by taking chances, being consistent, and believing in myself. I have been an entrepreneur for shy of a year now. It has not been an easy journey. The main thing that you have to realize is now you’re the boss. The work doesn’t get done until you create it, and the money doesn’t get made until you make it. And now that I have started to expand and take on employees it is a whole different level of challenges.
Another challenge is trying to get your ideas out of your head and into play. Learning how to properly allocate your time, resources, and energy is vital.
I would like the world to know that The Luxe Medspa is here to compete. I want to plant my stake in the healthcare industry. Being a Black Woman in an industry that has a microscopic presence of those that look like me, I feel compelled to compete. Everyone has their own idea of what luxury is. The Luxe Medspa is mine. I want people to come into my place of business, feel welcomed, and leave informed and happy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely tell them to plan a trip to The Luxe Medspa! I like variety. I would say to start the day with a walk around Piedmont or hike Stone Mountain if you want to get your steps in.
Brunch at Gocha’s Breakfast Bar is amazing! For me, the most fun I have is at home with a few good friends, hookah, wine, and board games.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My late mother Rosemary deserves ALL the recognition. She always pushed me to be my best and not settle for “ok”. She set the example by never letting me see her give up. She was always very clear with her message that she was not raising me to be mediocre. I remember this every time I get discouraged.
