We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridgette Michelle Bentley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridgette Michelle, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
An important book I read is Physics of the Future by Michio Kaku. He’s the Einstein of our times. This book had a huge impact on me, I wrote my first feature length script based on several principles in the book. The film is currently in preproduction phase. It’s amazing what we’ve achieved as a human race that many people are unaware of. Physics and sci-fi movies absolutely borrow from one another. Like magick, it literally helps to see the goals you want to achieve first then move forward to put them in action.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am definitely multi-talented. I’ve always been physically active, starting from a very young age…dance, gymnastics, baton twirling, drill team and cheerleading. My first job I was a cop and had a near death car accident. After several months amnesia but then gaining the ability to walk again, I became a Delta flight attendant. Then I began modelling around Atlanta. I caught the acting bug, and from there moved on to do stunts. I trained for so many years before I booked a thing- method acting, meisner, tae kwon do, karate, horse back riding, firearms and other weapons (sword, escrima, bo staff). I finally booked my first job, and there’s been pretty steady work ever since. This would be around 2017. I added swimming and scuba diving to my list. My favorite movies and tv shows I’ve been in are Black Panther 2, Shazam 2, Doom Patrol, Black Lightning, many of Mr Tyler Perry’s shows, and also the most recent Spiderman! I began writing and found a whole new love of creating stories. And that’s what sets me apart. #1 Persistence, never give up. Anything is possible, keep moving forward. #2 My creativity. I’ve written (and co-written)/filmed 5 short films so far. I have 3 scripts in development right now. I read voraciously and watch a lot of action, horror and sci-fi movies, so I really feel I know what people want to see! And although it’s fun creating, being an actress is most important to me. I love going deep inside to see how I can BE in the moment as a certain character…and what makes that character react to their current situation. Although I’m pretty versatile my best and most authentic performances are of the femme fatale action actor…or just someone deeply flawed. Because aren’t we all. Other things I enjoy on the side include dance and cosplay…I love LOVE comic book characters. I’d say the best thing I’ve learned on this journey is that no matter how talented, smart, or strong you are, it’s important to make good, genuine friends along the way. It’s true that you get ahead farther by teaming up with like minded individuals, get to know as many people as you can! And again. Never give up:)
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting for a week, I’d say let’s go to Rome, Italy! I absolutely love history and there’s so much history there…every stone you touch, the buildings, the architecture. The shopping is fantastic and so is the food. The people are lovely and friendly. I’m Catholic so I admit I’ve always tried to catch a glimpse of the Pope. Now for somewhere I’ve never been but would love to go next, it’s Egypt hands down. And the pyramids are definitely on my to-do list!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many friends and peers in the entertainment industry who have helped me along the way! Whether it was training with me, referring me to a role, the friend who first bought my sag card, various people who have casted me- every step of the way was an opportunity, and for that I am truly grateful. It’s why I’m helpful to others as much as I can be. The only competition is myself. Before I got into acting and stunts I have to say my family has been invaluable! Little sisters who encourage me, my grandparents who helped raise me..my father Hal, who raised me as well and taught me to be persistent and to always be myself. These are the people who really know me and love me.
