Meet Brady Gibson | Graphic Designer , Video Editor, & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brady Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brady, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As I began working for my self full time, there were no boundaries. I would wake up and work until I went to bed & repeat. After some time, this caused me to feel burnt out, and began affecting other aspects of my life, including home life, relationships, friends, and hobbies. After some time and commitment, I have created hours for myself that I do not go out of, with a definite separation of work time and personal time. It’s extremely important to create a work / life balance and to set boundaries for yourself, so that you don’t only get burnt out at your craft, but to be able to have time and energy to enjoy the other things in life that keep you healthy and happy. You will thank yourself in the long run.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an artist turned graphic designer. I have been in the creative field ( drawing, painting, photography, music ) ever since I could pick up a pencil. I specialize now in the music industry, creating album covers & packaging, creative directing rollouts, editing videos, creating logos, and so much more. On instagram, I have been creating a design every single day for over a year now. As I began to excel in this, I started my own business as a freelance graphic designer, Brady Gibson Design, along with starting a clothing brand, Create Your Own Happiness. Although it looks easy enough, being an artist / designer / business owner has not been easy. There have been plenty of all nighters and times I’ve wanted to quit, but looking back at the progress, and truly digging deep into why you love what you did makes it all worth it, and I could never see myself doing anything else for a living.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a resident of Lima Ohio, there is not MUCH to do. Activities in Lima with any type of interest include thrifting, concerts, sporting events, and food. One of my favorite food spots in Lima has to be a Mexican restaurant by the name of Lachareda. Meanest quesadillas & nachos in town. There are plenty of antique and thrift stores, and my personal favorite hobby, vinyl shopping.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Having someone in your corner supporting, encouraging, and speaking life into you is extremely important, especially in this profession & culture as creatives & business owners. My biggest supporter over the years has always been Brooke Michelle Photography ( IG / @brookemichelle_photo ). Brooke is an extremely talented fellow creative & business owner, and has helped push me, support me, keep me accountable, and show me grace when I needed It most. It’s important to find fellow creatives in your field to build relationships and connections with to help you push each other to be the best that you can be, and Brooke has been just that.
