We had the good fortune of connecting with Blk Orchid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blk, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue music full time a year and a half ago, after spending 12 years in healthcare. I put my dreams on hold to take care of my family , but still dreamed of doing more with my talent. I decided to go full throttle to prove to myself that i can go further than anyone ever did in my family. I lost my father very recently, and i want to make him proud by being successful in the industry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been making music since I was a kid. I’ve been producing since 2004, and professionally within the last 6 years. I have worked with some amazing artists through the years, such as Red Rat, Bay C and Maestro Fresh Wes.

I quit my healthcare career after 12 years to pursue music full time a year and a half ago. Its been hard to achieve the things I’d like to at times because I grew up and remained in poverty most of my life but still was determined to make it for my family. I was married and divorced, lived in different parts of the world, faced homelessness but still persevered.

I am now focused on my music and my brand and spreading my Jamaican roots and culture and striving to be a pioneer in the space. I am an artist who is using Music NFTs to leverage and elevate my career. I still face a lot of challenges today trying to get my music heard, as talented as i am, its hard to finance a career out of pocket and small streams of income. Ive learned that everything is supposed to happen when its time, and that its never too late to follow your dreams, Im doing that at 40 years old, and single mother!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well if they came caribana weekend! friday we’d go to ripley’s aquarium in the heart of toronto durng the day, take pics at the CN tower, ride the subway to yonge and dundas square in the evening and catch a free show there and grab some street meat on the way home!

Caribana morning we watch the parade down on Lakeshore Blvd in Toronto assuming we arent in it playing mas the entire day! eat some food at my sis Camille’s place Premier Caribbean Cuisine cause she is an amazing cook and she has her cookouts twice a month at her place and the food is SO GOOD. have a cpl drinks and go party at one of the nightclubs having a party for caribana weekend!

Sunday we chill and head downtown to the waterfront to catch a boat party to wind up the festivities! , monday is usually a holiday so we can go to niagara falls and see the sights there and eat at Copacabana resturant its a brazillian style steakhouse and you will definately get the meat sweats. Youll sleep so good on the way back to the hotel

we can check out Little Jamaica, little italy, Greektown, Chinatown, drive to hamilton out in the west and go to Devil’s Punchbowl and catch the view from there looking over the city across lake ontario you can see toronto from there!
