We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Schuetz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I founded Coping Solutions because I recognized a critical gap in emotional support for children, particularly those who don’t have access to a Certified Child Life Specialist. Child Life Specialist often work in hospitals, this limits the ability for many children—especially those outside of clinical settings—to receive the psychosocial care they need. After receiving numerous calls from friends and family about how to support children through grief, a cancer diagnosis in the family, or other major life changes and stressors, I realized that our community was missing a vital resource. At Coping Solutions, we aim to fill that gap by offering specialized emotional support to children, empowering them to cope with life’s toughest challenges in a healthy, productive way. What makes Child Life Specialist support special is the expertise in child development and how that relates to the emotional needs of children.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Coping Solutions is Atlanta’s only provider of in-home emotional support for children from a Certified Child Life Specialist, offering expert guidance tailored to each child’s unique needs. Child Life Specialists are a vital part of psychosocial support for children and I’m proud to be able to bring this specialized care to families who may not have access to it in a hospital setting.

What sets Coping Solutions apart is my personalized approach. By using my expertise in child development, I’m able to help children navigate complex emotions and life events—whether it’s a family member’s illness, a significant loss, or any other major life change. I meet children where they are, learning about their individual strengths and interests, and create strategies that help them better understand difficult concepts, express their feelings, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

What excites me most about this work is knowing that I am providing a service that is both desperately needed and deeply impactful for families. It’s not just about helping children process tough situations—it’s about giving them the tools they need to grow stronger, more resilient, and more self-aware.

The journey to this point has entailed working in major hospitals like Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory Healthcare. I also have a deep commitment to our community and have volunteered my time with nonprofit organizations such as Camp Sunshine. These experiences helped me connect with families and deeply understand their needs. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced challenges along the way—whether it was navigating the logistics of starting a business, building a network, or educating families about the importance of emotional support for children. But with persistence, a deep belief in the value of this work, and the support of a great team, I’ve been able to overcome these obstacles. The lessons I’ve learned are invaluable: trust in your mission, stay focused on your goals, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

What I want the world to know is that every child deserves the opportunity to receive the emotional care they need, no matter their circumstances. Coping Solutions is here to help make that a reality, and I am passionate about ensuring that children in our community have access to the best possible support during some of the most challenging times of their lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a business owner in the pediatric space, I am always looking for the perfect cross over of places that offer entertainment for children and allow parents to have a relaxing night as well. I feel that North Atlanta has a ton of great options for that.

Downtown Roswell is a favorite of ours, especially with its vibrant atmosphere and charm. You will often find children running around Gate City or The Standard. During the holidays, Canton Street is dressed up with scarecrows, Christmas lights, or other fun activities for families to enjoy. As we transition to nighttime, the scene is a great fit for parents to relax and unwind. My husband and I love sitting outside at Deep Roots to enjoy a glass of wine and a charcuterie board. Our family can usually be found near the Chattahoochee River on The Boardwalk.

In Alpharetta, the Saturday farmers market is a must. There is a massive green space in the center of the excitement where children play and dance to live music. Don’t miss the donuts at Jekyll Brewery while you are in the area!

We are fortunate to have spaces that are a great fit for families, a balance of child friendly yet sophisticated enough to allow parents to have opportunity to decompress.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am deeply grateful to those who have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life, with a shared commitment to better serving the youth in our community. A heartfelt thank you to David, Emma, Melissa, and Chris for your unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement every step of the way. Your belief in this mission has been invaluable.
