We had the good fortune of connecting with Bayleigh Varnel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bayleigh, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
As I’ve continued to grow throughout my life, I’ve gone through feeling sad, confused, and angry. I’ve felt lost in my life direction, and I’ve felt lonely. But I realized that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
I realized that everyone in some way is searching for meaning in their lives, everyone wants to heal, and everyone wants to achieve success and happiness.
My business idea came from my own painful journey of enduring a long term emotionally abusive relationship and finally learning how to heal from the negative effects it had on my life.
From that experience I learned my purpose and it was the help other women heal from that same pain through teaching women self development through the power of astrology and spirituality.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
sugarpath is a spiritual wellness and astrology boutique that specializes in teaching women to heal, rediscover themselves, and manifest their dreams. sugarpath has a focus on spirituality and self development for melanated women.
sugarpath is all about healing and practicing self love, while deeply understanding, and embracing who you are in this lifetime through the power of astrology.
sugarpath addresses the distinct elements and dangers that toxic/emotionally abusive relationships have on our overall physical, spiritual, and mental health, healing from its effects, and recreating your life through astrology and spirituality.
I created sugarpath to truly make a positive impact in the lives of melanated women, who I feel have been grossly underrepresented in the wellness and spirituality space.
My goal is to create a gentle but informative online space for women to feel comfortable embracing their softness and femininity while becoming knowledgeable on how they can heal and manifest through first, understanding and acknowledging toxic relationship behaviors, removing themselves from toxicity. Spiritually and physically healing from its effects, and using astrology and spirituality to positively transform their lives.
sugarpath represents self love and embracing your life’s journey and purpose.
My brand here is to uplift and guide melanated women through their healing journey, soul development, and deep transformation.
I’m most excited about the opportunity I have to share the knowledge I’ve gained through my life experiences with others and see the positive transformation that I’m able to create in the lives of those that are drawn to me and need my guidance.
I got to where I am today through my craving to understand myself and the life journey that I’m on. I got here through building up the courage to face my fears and go through the healing process. I got here by choosing to embrace who I am and my purpose.
Of course it’s not easy but it is extremely rewarding once you take the time to take a step back and see the amazing progress you’ve made.
I’ve been able to overcome my challenges by using astrology to guide me through the path I know my life is meant to take. By understanding my past, current, and future life cycles, it’s taken away the anxiety and frustration of my day to day experiences. I’m now self aware and therefore I’m clear on my life purpose.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way and continue to learn, is that absolutely everything happens for a reason and it’s always to push you forward and help you become a more improved version of yourself.
I believe the most important relationship in your life is the one that you form within yourself. Make it the best ever!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend in town we would eat at one of my favorite spots Nine Mile Station. It’s an excellent restaurant on the rooftop of Ponce City Market that has an amazing view of the city. We’d catch a show at Buckhead Theatre and have drinks at Jojo’s Beloved Cocktail Lounge. We’d go to a great restaurant/lounge hangout spot which is called Apt 4B. We’d have a night out at Rock Steady. Brunch at Breakfast at Barney’s and South City Kitchen. Lunch at an Atlanta staple, Houston’s.
Fun times at Puttshack. Lunchtime frozen margaritas at Velvet Taco. Appetizers and drinks at Draw Bar. Two Urban Licks is another great spot we go to for dinner. Dessert at Café Intermezzo.
Ride scooters on the Beltline and through Piedmont park, catch a Hawks or Falcons game depending on the season, and see the latest exhibit at the High Museum of Art!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, Victoria and Charles. I’m so grateful to have had the blessing of growing up in a healthy, happy, and stable two parent household. That experience most certainly gave me the solid foundation needed to be able to face the world and the many challenges that come up in life. Also, my sister Chyla. It’s so special to have that sibling connection. We have always had a great relationship and I’ve always been inspired her ability to walk through her life with so much strength while maintaining her core of exuding gentle and kind energy regardless of her surroundings.
