We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Devine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Knowing whether to keep going or to give is determined by my will power. I have to ask myself “why” 7 times and have 7 different reasons as to why I can’t give up. If I cannot come up with 7 reasons as to why I should keep going when I feel stressed, weary, and discouraged…I release it. If it returns at a later time, then I will continue to journey it, but in the moments when stress is involved, I have to make a decision that best helps my current state. I always tell myself that I create the timeline, so I am never in a rush.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a middle school educator and have been teaching for almost 8 years. I finished both of my degrees while carrying and taking care of my son. It was not easy but it was well worth it, because he is such a proud son. I truly enjoy the fact that he brags on me to his friends and it makes me proud to make him proud. From teaching, I branched into tutoring, which is Dream Anchors Tutoring Co., this was my way of providing supplemental income to college students as well as gaining funds to support the ultimate goal of Dream Anchors, which is to provide mentoring in the form of Conferences for young ladies. I had my first conference this past year with 50 girls who left feeling motivated, inspired, and believing in their dreams. The best part was seeing them network with other young ladies around the CSRA. Seeing them exchange contacts and social media was really cool. I was not introduced to networking until college and I was happy to see them do it at a young age.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend Southbound BBQ at SRP stadium to eat and drink. It is a nice, scenic area with good food. You can never go wrong walking down broad street, because you will find something to do, somewhere to eat, or somewhere to take a nice selfie. Another place that I would recommend is Humanitree in downtown Augusta. The vibes and energy in that place is as amazing as their vegan dishes. I enjoy going there to eat, read, and admire the paintings and murals throughout the place, done by the owner. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the students who gain tutoring from us, and the young ladies who graced us with their presence at our 1st “Grow with Me” Conference. You all are superstars and we do what we do with you in mind! We love you all and we thank you for being wonderful! Keep Growing, and always remember your dreams are your reality!
