We had the good fortune of connecting with April A-Love Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April A-Love, why did you pursue a creative career?
Photography found me before I fully understood I was even searching for it. I’m self-taught — I didn’t come from a technical background or formal training. I simply followed the pull in my spirit. I truly believe God led me to this passion, and He continues to guide my eye every time I pick up the camera.

What I love most, especially in fashion photography, is the freedom to let your imagination run wild — to be expressive, bold, and unapologetically creative. There’s something magical about transforming an idea into a visual moment. But beyond the art, I love people. I love capturing them in their essence, freezing a piece of their beauty, strength, or vulnerability in time. It’s more than photography for me — it’s storytelling, it’s connection, and it’s divine.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My photography is a reflection of emotion, connection, and divine creativity. I’m a self-taught photographer, so everything I’ve built has come from passion, prayer, and a whole lot of practice. I don’t approach my art from a purely technical place — I let the spirit lead me. Whether I’m shooting fashion, portraits, or candid moments, I’m drawn to capturing people in their most authentic light.

What sets me apart is more than just the images — it’s the experience I create. I’m proud of my ability to make people feel comfortable, confident, and even a little playful in front of the lens. I believe laughter is magic, and when you mix that with great energy and fast turnaround times, it builds trust and keeps clients coming back.

One of the things I’m most proud of is being a five-time winner of Best of Gwinnett. That kind of community recognition means everything to me — it’s a reflection of the love, professionalism, and care I put into every shoot.

My passion for fashion photography gives me a creative edge — I love bold styling, dramatic lighting, and pushing boundaries — but I also truly enjoy capturing all types of photography. From brand shoots to intimate family portraits, every session tells a different story, and I’m honored to be the one behind the camera.

Getting to this point hasn’t been easy. There were times when I questioned my path, especially being self-taught in an industry where credentials are often valued more than raw talent. But I kept showing up, kept learning, and kept creating. The biggest lesson I’ve learned? Stay consistent, stay humble, and stay true to your creative voice — even when others don’t get it yet.

At the end of the day, I want the world to know that my brand isn’t just about photos — it’s about impact. It’s about making people feel seen, celebrated, and empowered through imagery. Every shoot is personal to me. Every client becomes part of my story. And every click of my camera is a love note to the art I was born to do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start in Little Five Points — it’s a whole vibe. I love the graffiti, vintage shops, and the creative energy in the air. Then we’d hit the Beltline for a walk, some people-watching, and maybe a smoothie stop. The city’s full of interesting characters and inspiration.

We’d definitely catch sunset at the Ponce City Market rooftop — good food, strong drinks, and that skyline view? Yes, please. I don’t make it to the city as much as I’d like, but when I do, I leave recharged. So with my bestie in town, we’d eat, explore, laugh, and probably sneak in a cute photo shoot somewhere along the way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing, beautiful daughter, Hailee Anastasia. From a very young age, she’s been my muse — truly a living work of art. She’s inspired so much of my creative journey.

Now, don’t get me wrong — we drive each other a little crazy sometimes, and she just might be my most challenging client! She rarely follows my directions (probably because to her, I’m just “Mom”), but that dynamic has actually made our bond even stronger. We’ve grown so much together — both as individuals and as creative collaborators — and over the years, we’ve captured some truly stunning images. I’m so proud of her, and deeply grateful for the role she’s played in shaping my vision.
