We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Calderon “Ace the Rapper” and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ace the Rapper, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since a young age, music played a significant role in my life and I leaned on it to cope with the things I was going through. Initially, I wrote music as a form of self therapy, to give myself a way to clear my mind. One of my closest friends convinced me to start recording what I was writing and I quickly realized how my music could impact others as well. That pushed me to continue to create and make relatable music for those who experienced similar things. To let people know that they aren’t alone and give them a voice through my art, like music did for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Musical Artist that focuses on creating within the Hip Hop genre. My ultimate goal as a artist is to make the listener feel as I do in that moment. To take them on a journey through my mind using my lifestyle and personal experiences as a guide. I’m proud of the platform I built for myself and I’m excited to see it grow. It hasn’t been easy, but my support system lightens the load and gives me motivation to keep going. Over time I learned to put in the work and let things flow. You’re gonna win some and lose some. It’s easier to celebrate the wins but it’s about how you bounce back when you lose.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s so many go to places in Atlanta and there’s something for everybody. If you like nature there’s several parks like; Piedmont, Centennial, etc. You can visit the Georgia Aquarium, The World of Coke, or the Zoo. If you’re into art and history there’s numerous museums and other similar attractions. You can visit Little Five Points, Ponce City Market, the belt line, etc. All have a great and distinctive vibe. There’s plenty of places to eat, but Burger Baby has some of the best food hands down. There’s always something going on in the city at night and you can still leave the city and have fun at places like Six Flags. There’s a lot to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been a lot of people that have supported me along the way and I’m forever grateful. Before anything, I have to shoutout God and my family because I wouldn’t be here today without either. Both have been there for me through everything and helped sculpt me into who I am today. That being said, I wouldn’t be making music without Cam Hay and DJ Blue (Randy Waczkowski). This whole thing started with the three of us. They believed in me before I believed in myself and I can’t thank them enough for that.
