We had the good fortune of connecting with Aminta Ussery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aminta, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business was inspired by my mother who became ill for a while, so I started making waist-beads and other jewelry to help me cope. I have always been crafty and decided to turn my hobby into a business. I wanted to bring peace and healing to others that may have been going through difficult times. My mother passed away in 2020 and that made me continue my business in honor of her.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Love, Michelle Creations is all about self-love, mental health and body positivity. Waist beads were created years ago for that exact purpose. When life gets difficult, it’s easy to consume your mind with negative thoughts. I want to remind people that it’s ok to uplift yourself. I want my products to constantly remind my customers to prioritize their mind, body, and mental space. That is the driving force behind my business.
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it’s well worth it. My biggest struggle was starting because I was scared and nervous of the unknown. I was unsure if people would support me, and I didn’t want to feel like a failure. That scares a lot of people, but I gained enough confidence to start and stayed positive. I’m so amazed and thankful for all of the support.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my mom Michelle, this is for her. I love and miss you ma! I would also like to shoutout everyone who has supported me in this journey and my business, thank you all so much!
