We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Garner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alice, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent, I think the most important thing that I have done is shown my children that in life things may not always go according to your plans, but if you have faith and don’t give up, things will work out. And sometimes things work out for the better.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is Garner’s Sweet Dreams, it is a cupcake bakery located in the Augusta Mall in Augusta, GA.

I think what sets me apart from others in my craft, is that I try to create different flavors treats that others aren’t doing.

I am most proud of the fact that my dream came true and I am working in my own business.

I got to where I am today in my business, because I had faith and I trusted in my abilities. It was not easy starting a business and trying to fund the business yourself. It was a lot of long hours and nights I didn’t sleep.

I overcame the challenges by trusting God and his plans for my life. I also went to school and learned more about business and my craft.

Some lessons that I have learned is, don’t give up. Ask for help, you don’t know everything, and others have the answers you need.

I want everyone to know that Garner’s Sweet Dreams is a family cupcake business. Everything is made from scratch and our treats are made from love. We want everyone to feel the love in our treats. We hope to bring a little bit of joy to others in every bite!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot is my business, so the first thing I would do is take them to my business. I think we would spend a lot of time downtown Augusta. I love the different places to eat and you can walk around and have a good time. Craft and Vine is a nice upscale restaurant and Taste Wine room for drinks. I would also take them to Savannah Rapids, it is a nice place to hang out and relax.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I want to give honors to God, because without out him nothing is possible. Second, I would like to give honors to my husband Jeffrey Garner and my children Jahiem Garner, Da’shaun Howard, Antoine Garner, Elizabeth Howard, Jordan Garner, Jayden Garner, Alisha Howard, and Aaliyah Howard, for being very supportive and encouraging. Some days I wanted to give up and they kept me going. I would like to thank my mom Mary Wicker and Sister Betty Wicker, for being there when I needed yall, no matter the time of day. I couldn’t do this without yall. Last but not least, I would like to thank Elder Lesley Rene Barnes for all her support and mentorship she has given me over the years, a lot of this would not be possible without you!
