We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexia Maida and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started spray tanning because, as a kid, I actually got picked on for being extremely fair skinned! I fell in love with the feeling of having a bronze glow on my skin and I wanted to share that same confidence with others. My mom also went through a skin cancer scare several years ago and it made me realize the dangerous and aging effects that the sun can have. For me, sun tanning was no longer a risk that I was willing to take. My thought was simple; if I can make others feel good about themselves while doing what I love, then I will consider that a great success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Coconut Airbrush Tanning started as a luxury mobile spray tanning business and we’ve stayed true to that. From the start, we wanted to focus on providing a luxury experience right from the comfort of your own home. At the start of this new business, it was quite difficult to find clients and for a long time, I had only one or two clients a month. While it would have been easy for me to throw in the towel and give up, I persisted and my patience has paid off. I truly had to learn that great success does not happen overnight – and I am still reaching for greater success every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting the area, I would have a long list of places & things we need to accomplish! I am a huge dessert lover, so I would definitely start off by taking her to the new Five Daughters Bakery that just opened in Alpharetta! After that, we would walk around the Avalon and take a look inside all of the cute shops and boutiques. While she’s here, we would make sure to watch a Braves game at Truist park (& of course eat a hot dog while we’re there)! Lastly, we would check out the Botanical Garden and see what new exhibits they have to offer!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without the encouragement from my family, I probably would not have gotten to where I am today. My mom, in particular, has always been my biggest supporter and she is always encouraging me to take risks and continue learning and growing.
