We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex McCarty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When starting McCarty Speed & Fab I wanted to do things my way. I wanted my shop to be a space where I made customers classic vehicle dreams come true. I wanted a space where I looked forward to opening the doors every day as well as having a vintage feel.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
McCarty Speed & Fab is a small town hot rod shop and fabrication business all in one. I specialize in classic vehicles 1987 and older. I restore cars from the ground up or make the smallest changes to finished cars. I work with customers who are also building their own cars at home and sell them all the correct parts to finish the job. Whether they can build the car all the way or just get to a point where I finish it, I am willing to help!
On the fabrication side of the business I focus on precision TIG welding as well as MIG welding. I have a focus on automotive fabrication and do a lot of high end stainless exhaust systems. We work with many local businesses from tire stores, restaurants, print shops and more to handle any of their fabrication and welding needs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are about an hour outside of Atlanta and I avoid ATL traffic like the plague. Any small town outside of the city with mom and pop BBQ restaurants is perfect for me. Our area is known for being the antique capitol of Georgia. We love getting lunch and hitting antique shops to see what treasures we can’t live without. We also enjoy hitting local car shows that are scattered around almost every weekend weather permitting!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife and my parents! None of this would have been possible without their support. My parents pushed me from the very beginning. My wife and I started dating after I had been in business for about a year and a half. She was supportive from day one and pushed me when I needed it the most.
