We had the good fortune of connecting with Ahsan Manji and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ahsan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about risk as a chance to succeed. My father taught me from a young change, that taking risks is an integral part of one’s life. It allows you the potential to accomplish bigger achievements in life. Risk played a role in my undergraduate education when I decided to transfer back home in my sophomore year and also change my major while transferring. In taking that risk, my father’s teachings were re-emphasized. That risk came with the benefits of finding my academic niche, better career-related opportunities, and improved mental health. The risk was losing my comfort zone in my previous institution because none of the benefits I previously mentioned were guaranteed, I had to work for them. Risk for me is taking a leap of faith + strong work ethic = chance to success. It has played a role in my life by giving me a better educational track in my life leading to hopefully a strong career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is in the field of Public Health, specifically combining business acumen and the healthcare industry to be an influential leader as I work in positions that promote and protect the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play. I am most excited about my first Public Health related role this summer of 2022 working in Environment, Health, and Safety at Carrier, a global organization working on heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration solutions. I got here today professionally with multiple occasions of trial and error with different fields and majors. It was not an easy process and would not have been possible without the support of the people I previously mentioned. Patience was the biggest factor in helping me overcome the challenges of feeling lost and hopeless at times. The lessons I learned along the way are to always stay calm and think actions through with patience because I use to think thinking through actions with stress was beneficial due to the pressure it put on me, but I was completely wrong.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In terms of hangout spots, I would definitely recommend Duluth Downtown and Ponce City Market. For food, I would recommend Chin Chin in Brookhaven, GA for amazing Chinese food and Asma’s Cuisine in Duluth, GA for delicious Pakistani food!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family which includes my parents, siblings, and girlfriend. My shoutout is dedicated to them for always being there for me in helping me think through life decisions and making time for me from their busy schedules even if it is a last-minute request. I am grateful for their constant love and support.
