We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Levy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor that I would consider a huge part of my brand’s success is, my willingness to branch out from my typical style to meet the needs of my customers. As a designer it can become challenging at times to pull away from your normal aesthetic and style someone’s home in a totally different way. You have to be open minded, willing to research and to step out of your comfort zone. It took me a while to get there, but it is something I feel I pride myself in now.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
GA Peach Restoration started as a mere vision back in 2013, when my husband and I moved into our 1920s craftsman home, While it was beautiful in my eyes, there was no denying that it could use a bit of a refresh. It wasn’t until I started restyling and decorating our home, that my husband realized I had an eye for these types of things. I always knew home decor was a big interest of mine, but I never imagined it was something I could turn into a career. The more friends who came to our home, the more that people asked me if I could help them decorate theirs. Then everything just took off! It started out as friends contacting me, then friends referred friends, and so on. Then before I knew it I had 5-6 clients at a given time. The hardest part was finding the time to ensure I was giving everyone the time and dedication they deserved from my end. That’s when I realized I needed to start coming up with a very specific way to schedule clients. One item was, to ensure that projects didn’t take too long from start to finish and secondly, that depending on the size of a project I wasn’t over exerting myself to the point, where I didn’t have time for my other clients. By doing this, I was able to ensure I was committing to a good amount of work, but not burning myself out on a few select projects. My work means so much to me and I take pride in everything I design, so I want to make sure I always have time to give everyone and everything a full 100%.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is easy, the Beltline (in Inman Park, Atlanta) is one of my absolute favorite places to take out of town guests. It has everything you can think of. Shopping at Ponce City Market, breweries, plenty of bars/restaurants for lunch, plus you can be outside enjoying the Atlanta weather, while doing it all.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I think of how to answer this question, its a no brainer for me. My husband, hands down, is the reason GA Peach Restoration even exists. I went back and forth for years trying to decide if this was something I wanted to do, and he was the driving force behind getting me to take the plunge. He even helped me design my own logo and business cards, when I first started out. If that isn’t love, I am not sure what is!
